There is a particular kind of rest that only comes when the jungle is loud, the ocean is close, and nothing on your schedule actually needs to happen. Casa del Sol is built around that feeling.
The house is in Playa Azul, a quiet, unhurried stretch of Guanacaste’s Gold Coast. The shoreline remains wild and largely undeveloped, which is part of what makes it so beautiful. A short path through the trees leads to the beach in under five minutes—no car required. The pool is private, every bedroom has an ocean view, and howler monkeys move through the surrounding canopy. The pace here is its own.
THE HOUSE
Casa del Sol accommodates up to eight guests in four air-conditioned queen bedrooms. Each bedroom has an ocean view, private balcony, en-suite bathroom and large closet, giving every guest a comfortable private retreat.
The house includes a fully equipped kitchen, with grocery shopping available before arrival through the house manager. There is an outdoor dining area and barbecue, strong Wi-Fi throughout, and a washer and dryer on-site. The main living room has a television, while the bedrooms are designed as quiet, restful spaces.
THE POOL AND BEACH
The private pool is at the heart of the house, surrounded by tropical greenery and outdoor living space. Spend the morning at Playa Azul, return for a swim, and enjoy lunch or dinner outside.
Unlike many vacation homes in this part of Guanacaste, Casa del Sol is genuinely walkable to the beach. Follow the short path through the trees and you’ll reach secluded Playa Azul in under five minutes.
THE SERVICE
Casa del Sol is fully managed locally throughout your stay. Housekeeping is provided three times a week and can be adjusted on request. Grocery provisioning, in-house massage and other local experiences can be arranged through the property manager.
Yoga is available at Azul Hotel & Retreat or can be arranged privately at the house. The hotel is directly across the road and welcomes Casa del Sol guests for breakfast and dinner; simply walk over and pay on-site.

My family (husband and two boys, ages 13 and 17) and my parents stayed at the Casa del Sol for our first visit to Costa Rica. Staying at this home was so much more than renting a property. We were so happy with the attention and care we received from both Phyllis and her property manager, Diego. Phyllis answered every question we had via the site instantly. She sent us ideas, gave advice, made recommendations—she really helped us plan out our entire vacation, including activities and meals. Once we arrived at the property, the delightful Diego was there to welcome us and answer our every question (no matter how silly or dumb), again, instantly. The house was lovely and comfortable with tons of kitchen tools, pots and pans, and even Tupperware for our leftovers. The layout was great for our group – four bedrooms, with each one having its own bathroom. We loved the pool, especially when the monkeys swung through the trees high above our heads! The beach was a bit of a walk to access, but we were able to swim there. Other activities we loved included ATV’ing in the riverbed, ziplining (a must), horse back riding, and a boat tour on the Tempisque River, where we saw crocodiles, iguanas and capuchin monkeys. We had some tasty local meals and also hired Phyllis’s housekeeper, Mariana to cook a few dinners for us at the house, and that was a really nice option. We were so happy with our experience from start to finish and hope we can come again someday!

Casa del Sol was everything we could have ever wanted for our family vacation to Costa Rica; it is absolutely amazing! Four of us including two children (9 and 11) stayed for just under a week over February break. We have been fortunate to stay in many VRBO properties over the years, but I believe Casa del Sol is the best we have ever experienced. The home is very secure, located adjacent to resort grounds, gated and fenced.It is beautifully maintained. Despite being on the beach and next to the jungle, it was impeccably clean upon our arrival. The back yard and pool area is a great private area to enjoy the wonderful Costa Rican weather. The pool is large and in great condition, we spent many evening hours swimming and relaxing after our day’s beach excursions.The house has everything you could ever need for your stay. I can’t think of a single thing that was missing or in dis repair.The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and comfortable. Most importantly, the staff (Diego and Marianna, especially) take great pride in their work and do a wonderful job to ensure everything is perfect for your stay. I am grateful for our time at Casa del Sol.

Property was just as described. We loved the pool area, it was wonderful as it had shaded and sunny areas and we loved that there were inflatable loungers for the pool. Diego was fantastic and arranged great outings for us. Mariana cooked for us and it was so nice to have our dinner waiting for us after the long ride from the airport. The resort next door was very handy for eating and their food was very good. The howler monkeys at the pool were amazing, and we wished that we saw more of them. Phyllis provided lots of great information and we ate at the restaurants she recommended and they were all good. We loved the "adventure" as this was off the beaten path, but be warned that the roads are very bad, full of pot holes and we didn't venture too far as a result. We rented a car, but it was quite expensive, and you would probably save money by just arranging transportation. There are no ATMs which made it difficult when vendors required cash. The beach access was not available when we first arrived, but Diego immediately cut a path for us. The beach is beautiful, and we loved walking on it. We took a surf lesson in Marabella and it was so much fun that we can't wait to go again. The house was very comfortable and well equipped. We would definitely go again! We had a wonderful stay. We had originally planned on four couples staying for two weeks which ended up being 3 couples for 2 weeks and 1 couple for 1 week.
Everyone was ready for a relaxing holiday which we definitely had. Phyllis was great for answering my questions ahead of time.
The house is beautiful and gave our group the space to not be on top of each other. Each room having its own bathroom was very important to us. I read another persons review who said the pool was a deal breaker. So true. We spent every day cooling off in the pool. Having our drinks, reading and listening to our music. The howler monkey came to visit a few times as well as a small family of racoons who came in the evening for drinks from the pool.
Diego was the best! I almost felt bad for the amount of things I asked of him for our time there. We chose not to rent a vehicle for our group and rely on paying for rides wherever we needed to go. Diego arranged everything we asked for giving us a price ahead of time.
One thing about the location, its not within walking distance for supplies so we made a few paid trips to buy groceries and drinks. San Juanillo and Marabella both have little stores so that is where most of our supplies came from during our stay. The Azul Ocean Resort is right next door so we could always go there for meals in their restaurants. We did that a few times. The beach is an easy walk.
Overall it was a great place to stay!
