About this house rental
This is a rustic, ~800 sq ft home with Craftsman details and historic appeal. If you prefer cozy and sweet over sleek and modern, you've found the right place!
Note: Hosts live on-site in basement apartment.
THE BUNGALOW:
The delightful, covered front porch overlooks the fenced front yard, with the peaks of the Olympics looming over the rooftops across the street. It's a perfect for unwinding after your adventures.
Step inside to the small living room with a super-soft sofa and ottoman, rocking chair, and TV. It's open to the formal dining room.
The back bedroom has a queen bed and a huge armchair. The front bedroom has a twin day bed with a trundle bed that rolls beneath it. The day bed is regular height, while the trundle bed is low enough to fit under it. Both bedrooms are small.
The kitchen is well equipped in case anyone feels like cooking for baking. We have a power blender, stand mixer, food processor, citrus press, slow cooker, bakeware, measuring cups, toaster... We provide sugar, stevia, honey, vinegars, sauces, 50+ herbs and spices, and tea bags. For coffee, you can go just a block and a half to our wonderful neighborhood coffee stand or use the French press or K-cup maker to brew coffee you provide.
The house is filled with windows that let in the soft light -- even the closets have windows! There are wood floors, Arts and Crafts trim, and delightful details.
Ginkgo House radiates with character. Part of that character is scratched and stained floors, wobbly windows, and gaps under doors. This is an old house! Please don't come expecting perfection. But if you love antique homes, you'll get a kick out of this cutie.
GUEST ACCESS:
Guests have the full main floor of the house to themselves as well as use of the front porch, fenced front yard, and driveway. The entrance is private.
The hosts and their dogs live on the lower floor in the back of the house. They have their own entrance and have exclusive use of the back yard and the barn. There is no interior access between the downstairs apartment and the house.
AIR CONDITIONING:
During hot weather, the back (queen) bedroom and the dining/living room have window air conditioners and the front (twin) bedroom has a fan. But they are seldom needed in our mild climate. We don't put them up unless the forecast is for temperatures above 80 F. On a typical summer day (low to high 70s), the house naturally remains cool. Summer nights in Port Angeles usually drop to the mid-50s.
PETS:
Dogs are allowed with pre-approval only. When you request to book, please tell us about your dog's travel experience and personality.
A picket fence, about 3 feet high, fully encloses the yard.
You may not leave dogs unattended in the house or anywhere on the property. You must pick up your dog's poop. We provide bags and a bin.
There are two resident dogs. They have their own yard in the back. It's separated by two fences and over 20 feet of distance from the front yard, which is for guests.
PLAYGROUND:
A schoolyard across the street and a play field a few doors down feature jungle gyms, ball courts, and even musical instruments. It's open to the public all summer and outside school hours.
From about 8:30 to 3:30 on weekdays when school is in session (Sept - May), you can hear lots of laughing, squealing children. We LOVE the happy noise, but realize not everyone does. So we discount the house for those days.
PARKING:
There is off-street parking for one car and plenty of free street parking. 16amp electric vehicle charging is available (NEMA 6-20 plug).
ACCESSIBILITY:
There are four steps to reach the front porch.
LAUNDRY:
Please note that there are no laundry facilities. There's a laundromat about six blocks away.
