Region: Littered with rural villages, half-timbered buildings and heritage sites, with links to the neighbouring cities of Manchester and Liverpool, Cheshire offers picturesque landscape scenery in North West England.
Town: The historic, former salt mining town of Northwich lies in the heart of the Cheshire plain, on the junction of the River Dane and River Weaver, 18 miles from Chester. The town is host to a thrice weekly street market and monthly artisan and farmers' market, whilst history of its previous salt mining industry, which can be traced back to Roman times, can be viewed at the popular Salt Museum. The Bull Ring is a conservation area in the heart of the town centre providing many examples of preserved Victorian black and white buildings and is located at the foot of the pedestrianised shopping area where you will find numerous quality cafe's, wine bars and restaurants springing up, creating a lively cafe culture to compliment the numerous high street outlets, boutique stores and specialist shops on offer. In the local vicinity are several country parks, including Marbury Park with an outdoor swimming pool open throughout the summer, Verdin Park with children's play area and Anderton Nature Park which is home to the famous Anderton Boat Lift connecting the Trent and Mersey canal to the Weaver through a working 50ft lift dating back to 1875. Within driving distance are a host of attractions, such as the historic city of Chester, Delamere Forest, Cheshire Oaks Outlet Village, National Trust properties, including Tatton Park, Dunham Massey, Quarry Bank and Speke Hall, Trafford Centre, golf courses on the Wirral, North Wales beaches, and the major cities of Liverpool and Manchester, which have a host of attractions and places to visit. Northwich has so much to offer you can understand why it was named by the Sunday Times in 2014 as one of the best places to live in the UK!
