About this house rental

Summary:

A waterfront home on Cadle Creek with its own pier and boat slip, a wide west-facing deck, and sunsets over the Rhode River. Four bedrooms and four full bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and open living and dining space with water views from nearly every window. Outside, a big lawn runs down to the water, with a two-car garage and parking for several cars. Bring the boat, or just bring your coffee out to the deck and watch the light change.

The Space:

The house sits on Cadle Creek with west-facing water views, so the evenings here are the main event — the sun goes down over the water and the whole deck turns gold.

The ground floor is open. A kitchen with granite counters, full-size appliances and a breakfast bar for four flows into the dining area and a living room wrapped in windows looking out over the creek. The kitchen is properly stocked — cookware, dishes, glassware, a drip coffee maker and a Keurig, an electric kettle, and everything you need for a real meal rather than a holiday approximation of one. A full-size washer and dryer with a utility sink sit just off it.

All four bedrooms are upstairs. The primary has a king bed, a TV and an en-suite with double vanities and a tub/shower. The second bedroom has two double beds, a TV and its own bathroom with a walk-in shower — the easiest room for a family or a group of friends. The third has a queen, a TV and an en-suite with a marble walk-in shower. The fourth has a queen, a TV and a Juliet balcony looking out over the treetops. A full-size crib is set up for infants.

Downstairs there's a second sitting room with a sofa bed for extra guests, next to a full bathroom whose tub/shower is fitted with grab bars — which makes a single-level stay workable for anyone who would rather not take the stairs.

Outside, the deck runs along the back of the house with seating, a dining table and umbrellas, and a gas grill. The lawn slopes down past the pier to the water, with plenty of open ground for games or for doing nothing at all.

Two central air units cool the house in summer and allergen-free boiler heat handles the winter, so it's comfortable whichever season you come.

Guest Access:

The whole house is yours, along with the deck, the lawn and the private pier.

The two-car garage and the driveway give you off-street parking for several vehicles — there's no need to street park.

You're welcome to use the pier and to bring your own boat to the slip. If you're trailering something down, message us before you travel so we can confirm the slip is clear for your dates.

There's also a tandem kayak available on request. Let us know a little ahead of your stay and we'll have it out and ready for you.

The Neighborhood:

Cadle Creek is a quiet residential creek off the Rhode River in Edgewater, just south of Annapolis. It's a boating community rather than a resort strip — the traffic on the water is mostly neighbors coming and going.

Directly across the water, about two miles as the osprey flies, is the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center: 2,650 acres of protected shoreline and the largest undeveloped block of land left on the western shore of the Chesapeake. That's why your view stays green, and why you'll see ospreys, herons and the occasional bald eagle from the deck.

Better still, you can go and walk the view you've been looking at. SERC's campus is free and open to the public every day from 8:00am to 5:30pm, with several miles of hiking trails through forest and marsh and a public kayak launch. It's roughly a ten-minute drive round the head of the creek in normal conditions, a little longer when the peninsula is busy.

Historic Downtown Annapolis and the U.S. Naval Academy are a short drive, with the City Dock restaurants, the sailing scene and the shops all within easy reach for a day out. Closer to home, Edgewater has the everyday things — groceries, restaurants, marinas and boat ramps — a few minutes away.

Getting Around:

You'll want a car. Edgewater is a driving community and there's no practical public transport to the house.

From Route 2 (Solomons Island Road) it's a few minutes to Cadle Creek Road. Annapolis is a short drive north across the South River bridge, and BWI Marshall, Baltimore and Washington DC are all comfortable drives for a day trip.

Public boat ramps and marinas are within a few minutes if you're bringing a trailer.

Other Things to Note:

Stairs: all four bedrooms are on the upper floor, up a full flight. The accessible bathroom with grab bars is on the ground floor, next to the sitting room with the sofa bed. If stairs are a problem for anyone in your party, message us before booking and we'll talk through whether the layout works for you.

Pets: well-behaved pets are welcome. Please tell us about them when you book so we can plan for them, and keep them off the beds and furniture.

Quiet hours are 10:00pm to 8:00am. Sound carries across the water here, so please keep things low-key on the deck and by the pier late in the evening.

The path down to the pier is flagstone and stepping stones across a sloping lawn — sturdy shoes are a good idea, and it can be slick after rain.

The pier is on tidal water. Please keep an eye on children near the bulkhead and the pier edge.

Heating and cooling: two central air units for summer, allergen-free boiler heat for winter.

No smoking anywhere on the property, and no parties or events.

Interaction with Guests:

We're a message away for the whole of your stay and usually reply within the hour. Check-in is self-service, so you can arrive on your own schedule without waiting on anyone — we'll send door and wifi details before you travel.

If something isn't right, tell us early rather than at checkout. We'd much rather fix it while you're still here to enjoy it.
