Town: The pleasant village of Llangynog lies in the breath-taking rolling countryside of North Powys on the banks of the River Tanat amidst the beautiful Berwyn Mountains, and surrounding wooded hills and valleys. The area has a history of lead, silver, and slate mining, dating back to the 17th century but today it is a renowned location for climbing, birdwatching, walking, and cycling, with famous mountain bike trails near Dolgellau, and a mountain bike centre at Llandegla. To dine out there is the New Inn, a traditional pub, which enjoys scenic views of the Snowdonia Mountain range, and a short drive will lead you to a well-stocked Post Office to stock up on the essentials. Visit the historic market town of Bala for an action-packed day, where you can take up climbing, abseiling, mountain biking, as well as canoeing and kayaking on the glacial lake; it is a wonderful beauty spot, with excellent fishing and a variety of water sports, or perhaps visit Lake Vyrnwy, which has an RSPB centre and a sculpture park. Also, within easy reach is Llanrhaeadr Waterfall, the tallest single drop waterfall in England and Wales, or cross over the border into Shropshire to explore the town of Shrewsbury, steeped in history with its Grade I castle.
