DESCRIPTION

We had been describing one place where three generations could land at the same time — a big table, enough beds, and nothing anyone had to apologize for. Then we found Eagle's Perch nearly finished, and it was already that house. A local builder had finished it as a hand-crafted chalet tucked into the woods on Marsh Mountain — the same mountain Wisp Resort sits on, 2.7 miles from the lifts, though not slopeside. We spent the summer furnishing it room by room, and now we share it.

The great room opens two stories to tongue-and-groove pine with a stacked-stone fireplace and a sectional big enough for everyone at once. The kitchen looks up to a loft workspace under the gable. The loft primary suite has a soaking claw-foot tub and a separate walk-in shower. Air conditioning throughout, heated floors in all four baths, and ceiling fans in every bedroom.

The lower level is where the trip actually happens — a second stacked-stone fireplace, a big screen, two arcade cabinets, a wall-mounted bag-toss board, an octagon poker and bumper-pool table, a wet bar, and a kitchenette so nobody has to climb the stairs for ice. The noise stays down there.

Outside, a wraparound deck on three sides. The covered deck has a ceiling fan, a wall heater above the door, two gas flame towers and a gas fire table — the reason October and February are worth it here. The hot tub sits at ground level on its own pad beside it. A stone fire pit and picnic table in the trees, a hammock in the shade under the deck, two grills, and a table for ten.

We own this house and we answer our own messages. Write to us about your dates and you are writing to the family, not a management company — including when the honest answer is that we are not the right fit.

AREA DETAILS

2.7 miles to Wisp. 3.9 miles to Deep Creek Lake. 10.7 miles to the state park beach. 1.5 miles to Lodestone Golf. 5.8 miles to Swallow Falls. As our guests you are welcome at the community's Lakeside Park to walk the shoreline, cast a line with a Maryland license, or sit in an Adirondack chair and watch the water.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

Bed linens, bath towels, hand soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryers, paper towels and toilet paper are all provided. The kitchen is stocked with real cookware, not the starter set. You do not need to pack toiletries or bring your own linens. We stock these to start you off rather than to last a week for fourteen, and the grocery store is a few minutes down the mountain.

A NOTE ON ACCESS

The house has no step-free entry, and we would rather tell you that now than have you discover it at the door. A ramp at the back of the house leads up to the covered deck. The path to it from the parking area crosses a strip of grass and then a rock walkway, so it is not a continuous hard surface. From that deck, the nine-foot slider into the house has a 5 1/2 inch step up, the same at all three of the main-level deck sliders. The lowest threshold in the house is the nine-foot slider into the lower-level game room, just under an inch and a half, but reaching it means going from the parking area down and around the back of the house rather than straight in. Interior doors are standard residential width, and the main-level shower has a step-in of about four inches; it is not a roll-in shower. Portable grab bars are available on request. The driveway and all of the parking are gravel, not paved. The house is not ADA-compliant, so these measurements are here to help you decide. If anyone in your group has mobility needs, please ask us before you book and we will walk you through exactly what the approach looks like.

A NOTE ON CAMERAS

Three exterior cameras are in use — a video doorbell at the front entry and two covering the driveway and parking area. All face outward, audio is off, and none view the wraparound deck, covered deck, hot tub, fire pit or yard. There are no cameras inside the house.

A NOTE ON THE HOT TUB

It sits on its own pad beside the covered deck. Hot tub is not fenced. Locking cover in place when not in use; children must be supervised.

DOGS

Two dogs welcome, fifty pounds each, with a flat pet fee per stay. We ask that you bring a dog you know to be well-socialised and comfortable around other people and other dogs, since there are dogs at neighbouring houses. Dogs stay off the furniture, the yard gets cleaned up, and if everyone heads out we just ask that they stay crated while you are gone.

WINTER DRIVING

Garrett County gets real snow from roughly November through March, and the public roads up to the house are mountain roads. AWD, 4WD or snow tires are recommended through those months. The good news at our end: the driveway is short and the parking area is flat, so once you have made the drive you are not fighting a grade to get in.

OCCUPANCY

Fourteen is the maximum on the property at any one time, and that includes day visitors. Twelve of the fourteen sleep in the five bedrooms; the other two are on the lower-level pit sectional, which converts to a king sofa bed. Quiet hours are 10 PM to 7 AM, a community policy at Biltmore at Lodestone. No smoking anywhere on the property, and no parties or events.
