About this apartment hotel
Some places make you forget what day it is. Los Guajes is one of them.
Tucked into a private stretch of the Oaxacan coast — where the jungle meets the Pacific — this is a property designed around one idea: that real luxury is unhurried. Five independent bungalows sit within a lush tropical estate in El Tomatal, each one opening to gardens, palm groves, and the sound of waves from a beach that almost no one knows about.
The Space:
Each bungalow is its own world — private, unhurried, and quietly considered in its design. The architecture breathes with the landscape: natural materials, open-air touches, and interiors that feel polished without trying too hard.
The estate itself is the amenity. Several thousand square meters of tropical jungle, ornamental gardens, and palm groves create a living boundary between you and everything else. The pool sits at the edge of the property, facing the ocean directly. The palapa — dramatic in scale, easy in feeling — is where mornings start slowly and evenings tend to stretch.
The beach in front of the property is consistently empty. Not "quiet for the coast" empty — actually empty. A long, wild stretch of Pacific shoreline that most visitors to Puerto Escondido never find.
Food is prepared fresh by the on-site team using regional recipes and local ingredients. Meals can be arranged directly with the staff, tailored to your preferences and rhythm.
Guest Access:
Guests have full private access to their bungalow and all shared areas of the estate — pool, palapa, beach, and gardens. Each bungalow accommodates a couple and its layout ensures that privacy never feels negotiated.
The Neighborhood:
El Tomatal sits along the Oaxacan coast about 25 minutes from Puerto Escondido — close enough to reach the city when you want it, far enough to feel genuinely removed from it. This stretch of coastline is still largely undiscovered: small fishing communities, open roads lined with vegetation, and a quality of light in the late afternoon that's hard to describe and easy to photograph.
Puerto Escondido itself — the mercados, the mezcal bars, the surf culture of Zicatela — is a short drive when the mood calls for it. Most guests find they don't need it as often as they expected.
Getting Around:
A car or transfer service is recommended for arrival and for any excursions. The property team can help coordinate local transportation on request. Puerto Escondido's international airport is approximately 40 minutes away.
Other Things to Note:
Los Guajes hosts a maximum of five bungalows at a time, which keeps the experience genuinely intimate. Food and beverage service is available on-site with an additional cost. The property is connected via Starlink internet, and private parking is available on the estate. Given the setting — jungle, sea, quiet nights — guests who are looking for that kind of stillness tend to find it here completely.
Interaction with Guests:
The team at Los Guajes is present without being intrusive. Staff are available throughout the day to assist with meals, arrangements, or anything the stay requires — but the rhythm of the property is yours to set.
