If your dog gets wet/muddy there are specified dog towels in the laundry closet. Please do not use regular bath towels to dry your dog!
The Farm House
The main level has a living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry, full bathroom, sun-room and an office sitting room. The living room has two couches, an easy-chair, and a TV with local channels only. The sunroom is a nice place to sit in the evening to watch the sunset.
The fully equipped kitchen has most everything needed should you choose to cook at home or, you can take a short 10-minute drive to Zion Crossroads with many excellent restaurants. The kitchen is stocked with coffee, cooking spray, salt, pepper, sugar ketchup, and mustard. There is plenty of room for a feast at the farm style dining table, which seats 6 comfortably.
There are three bedrooms on the second floor each with old-fashioned queen-sized poster beds. The windows have blackout curtains if you want to sleep in. There is a full bathroom with shower, tub, two-sink vanity, and toilet. There are plenty of towels and linens so help yourself to whatever you need to use.
On the first floor there is another full size bathroom with tub and shower.
Places to go
The farm house is located in the Green Springs National Historic Landmark District in Central Virginia. If you want to explore a little further afield, the house is close to many wineries including Barboursville Winery and Keswick winery which are only 35 minutes away. Or you can visit historical sites such as Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson or Montpelier, home of James Madison which are both nearby. Charlottesville and the University of VA are only a half hour away. There are a few restaurants nearby in Zion Crossroads (within 10 minutes) of the house and many others in Charlottesville, only a quick 30 minutes away on I-64. Grocery shopping is also nearby as are gas stations.
Guest Access to the 40 acres of grounds.
Guests are welcome to explore the property, walking across the fields and on the trails. Take a leisurely walk in the woods with your pet. All that we ask is that you keep your pet on a leash at all times outside of the fenced yard around the house. Please keep all gates closed. If you do open a gate to go through it please close it the same way behind you.
Fishing
If you like fishing bring your pole and you can spend some time fishing on our 1-acre pond. Bass and Bluegill are just waiting to be caught. Please note: There is no boating or swimming on the pond, only fishing. There are nice park benches next to the pond near the house and another one by our other pond.
Other House Rules
We are a no-smoking property. Thank you for your understanding.
If you add/invite other guests after you have made your reservation (with or without dogs) please inform us right away. As long as there are not more than 6 people there will not be any extra charges but we would like to know. If you want to add any extra dogs you will need to inform us. Finally, please respect our wishes not to have any group parties with outside guests. A small family gathering is fine.

What some of our previous guests have said about Golden Meadows.
James 7/6/26
Golden Meadows was a perfect home base for our long holiday weekend in the Charlottesville area! As others have pointed out, this would be a great place for anyone--but it's truly ideal for families traveling with dogs. Our dog loved running around the large fenced-in back yard. While she came out with us during the days, she loved snoozing in the back sunroom when we left her to go out for dinners. And the amenities for the humans were great too! Checking in and out was extremely easy and the default of an early check-in time and late check-out time is great. We would love to return here on our next trip to the area.

This was our third stay at Julie and Rick’s place and once again the beautiful farm house and property did not disappoint! Rick and his friendly dogs are fabulous hosts and very welcoming. Our dogs absolutely love running around in the fenced in yard, walking the trails and we enjoy hanging out on the front porch. We look forward to returning again next year!

Rick and Julie's place is our favorite place to stay. It is so peaceful and beautiful. We always wish we could stay longer! They are very dog friendly and our pup loves it! They set a very high bar for any place else!

We had a fantastic time. It was exactly what we were looking for. We were able to take our dogs on walks in the woods and they loved it. The perfect getaway.
