A timeless interlude in La Cotinière

There are houses that you choose for their equipment... and others for the atmosphere they give off as soon as you walk through the gate.

Our house in La Cotinière belongs to the second category.

As soon as you arrive, you are greeted by a magnificent umbrella pine, which immediately sets the tone: here, you come to look for space, nature and that sweetness of life so particular to the island of Oléron.

The house is atypical, warm and full of character. It has been fashioned with old materials, which give it a personality that is very different from standardised holiday homes. Each space has its own charm, with the pleasant feeling of being in a real family home, lively and authentic.

The kitchen is one of the places where we naturally like to meet. Its large cooking range and its large worktop invite you to cook together: fish and market products on your return from La Cotinière, large family tables, aperitifs that continue while dinner is being prepared...

Outside, life takes on another dimension.

The property extends over almost a hectare of land, offering a feeling of space that is quite rare near La Cotinière. Children can run around and play while the older ones enjoy the terrace, the garden or a game of pétanque.

A few Ouessant sheep also live on the property and contribute to the unique charm of the place. For children, their presence often becomes one of the little memories of the holidays.

And then there are all those details that make real seaside houses: the barbecue after a day at the beach, the petanque court at aperitif time, up to the outdoor sink designed to clean shellfish, oysters and fishing returns before sitting down to eat.PGJyPgPGJyPg
La Cotinière on foot, the countryside on the way back

Just 800 metres away on foot, you will find the port of La Cotinière, its market, its shops, its restaurants and all the animation of this emblematic village of the island of Oléron.

A particularly pleasant proximity: you can go on foot to get bread in the morning, go to the port for a walk, stroll through the market or enjoy an evening in La Cotinière without necessarily taking the car.

For those who come with their bikes or rent them on the island, a gate also makes it easy to reach the cycle paths and discover Oléron.

And after the hustle and bustle of the port and the days by the ocean, we find the contrast of the property: nearly a hectare of land, greenery, space and the calm of a large family home.

This is undoubtedly what makes the place so special: being 800 metres from the life of La Cotinière while having, once back home, the feeling of being in your own little corner of the countryside.

The house is particularly suitable for these holidays where several generations, families or friends meet. The days start quietly, everyone lives at their own pace, then everyone ends up around a big table, a barbecue or a game of pétanque.

You come back from the beach, you prepare the products bought at the market, the children enjoy the land, the aperitif goes on... and the summer evenings can begin.

We never wanted to make this house an impersonal accommodation.

It is a family home, with its character, its old materials, its wide spaces and its small peculiarities. A house in which you come above all to meet, disconnect and live Oléron.

If you are looking for a contemporary and standardised house, it will probably not be the one you imagine.

But if you like places with a soul, large tables, nature, the ocean, markets, bike rides and evenings that extend outside...
