Hotel Moloka'i

Beautiful location, excellent facilities, and the staff are amazing! An exceptionally relaxed trip!

It was so manicured, clean, green.

The restaurant and bar were closed.

Beautiful well-maintained property with nice landscaping, peaceful, easy check-in/out. I had visited the property a couple hours earlier prior to check-in just to make sure I knew where it was, and they told me the room was ready then, so I was even allowed to check-in at that time, which was very much appreciated after some rental car hiccups. I was able to leave belongings in the room and then hit the road to see some sights. The staff member at check-in was kind to tell me which limited places would be open/have partial hours the following day (Sunday), which was much appreciated, and also the best time to go in town for the “hot bread” at night when they open. I like this location because it’s just a short drive outside of town, but not in the middle of town. You’re still within easy distance to the grocery store, shops, etc. I was on the ground floor and there was no one above me, which was great (no noise). I was just steps away from the pool (in the “Oahu” building) and people would hang out at the pool and play music during the day, but there were never any people in the pool after hours, etc. Everyone seemed to be respectful of the quiet time. Hammocks in the shade by the beach. Ample parking, never had any issues getting a spot in the extra gravel lot, closest to the room. The bed was comfy, strong A/C unit, and I appreciated the mini fridge and microwave for leftovers and keeping drinks chilled. There’s an easily accessible ice machine and even a water bottle refill station on the property. I saw laundry facilities too, but didn’t need to use. Would stay here again if ever on Molokai.

Only thing that would have been handy in the room for the kitchenette is a roll of paper towels. The on-site restaurant is closed for renovations, but there were a handful of options nearby in town. The beach in back of the property isn’t really one you can walk on, but there are other ones within a short drive. This has nothing to do with the property itself): but just the general impression on Molokai I got was not very receptive to visitors, no matter how respectful you are and how much you mind your own business. I almost got purposefully run down in the crosswalk in front of the grocery store in town by a jacked up stacked up truck… I also had a local rental car which ended up being inoperable, so was forced to use the lone corporate rental agency on island. But I will say, everyone on Molokai at the hotel, in a restaurant, or in shops etc, or even locals at some of the tide pools were all pleasant and cordial whenever I interacted with someone on an individual level. Molokai has some lowkey nice sights and I completely understand they don’t want to be overrun like other islands. You can pretty much see the highlights in a couple of days. I’m glad I went, but it’s not very high on my list to return.

Location… the view from the (run down) pool is superb. And it’s the only hotel on the island anyway. It could be an amazing place. The staff is extremely friendly.

Throwback to the 70´… the furniture is old, the restaurant remains closed and the whole area is taped. There was hair in my shower when I checked in, it remained there for 3 days. The AC is so loud I had to turn it off.
