Hilton Garden Inn Auburn

Overall, our stay was fine. The Hilton Garden Inn is still, in my opinion, the best hotel option in Auburn, New York, and despite a few issues during this visit, I would stay here again.

There were several issues during our stay. First, hallways on more than one floor had a distinctly unpleasant odor, almost like human waste. I’m not sure whether there was a plumbing or sewer issue, but it was noticeable. Breakfast was the biggest disappointment. We chose to order individual breakfasts rather than use the buffet. My wife ordered two eggs and an English muffin, only to watch the employee scoop eggs directly from the buffet tray and leave them sitting under a heat lamp for about five minutes while the muffin toasted. We expected a freshly prepared breakfast, particularly since we were ordering separately from the buffet. The red potatoes that were supposed to accompany her meal were also missing. The employee apologized and eventually brought them out on a separate plate, even though my wife had said not to bother. She left much of her breakfast unfinished and was understandably disappointed. We also had an issue with our room keys. Neither worked, and we were told it was probably because they had been near our cell phones, which wasn’t the case. Housekeeping tried their keys without success, followed by a manager whose key also failed. Even the maintenance employee initially couldn’t open the door with his master key and had to manipulate the lock to get it open. Despite this, he continued to suggest that cell phones were responsible. We eventually received new keys, but the explanation seemed rather dismissive given that nobody’s key had worked. None of these problems would necessarily keep us from returning, but the hallway odors need attention, the door lock issue should have been handled better, and the breakfast experience was particularly disappointing. We’ll definitely be eating breakfast elsewhere next time.

we were allocated what appears to be a disability room. shower was over the bath. would have preferred a shower cubicle the air conditioning unit is very noisy buffet breakfast was mediocre, at best.
