Was clean
The bed was suppose to a queen and was a full. Plus the bed was very hard to sleep on. Plus you need more options in the breakfast area. Coffee was like water and no taste to it.

The gentlemen checking us in was very friendly, and pleasant to deal with. He was busy, so we waited a few minutes before he could attend to us, but once he was free, we found him to be kindly, approachable and attentive.
The waffles for breakfast were such a really nice treat—fresh and hot. I also really having appreciated real butter available —real food—instead of cheap margarine or spread. I don’t drink coffee, but when I saw all the varieties of creamer made available, I almost wanted coffee, so I could enjoy the creamer with it! I thought coffee drinkers might really appreciate that.
Check-in and checkout were easy.
The bathtub was clean on the inside, but the outside of the tub had been neglected a while.
When we first walked in, we wondered if a skunk had blasted our room. The room was overwhelmingly reeking of marijuana. Either the previous customer smokes or vapes it, or the cleaning staff does. We were so exhausted from driving through non-stop storms all day, that we didn’t ask for a different room, just in case they all smelled badly from cleaning staff using. We just opened the windows a few minutes and hoped for the best. It helped a little, instead of getting worse, so it wasn’t a skunk. It was a pothead stinking up the place.
We will come back again and see if it it’s better the next time we visit family there. Even if it still stinks like weed, we would stay if we have to, because there are few alternatives in Hillsboro, KS, but we would prefer to go someplace that doesn’t smell like pot. Pot smokers don’t realize (or care) how revolting, nauseating, and oppressive the smell is to non-smokers.

Overall, the Country Haven Inn was better than expected. Check-in was easy, the room was clean and comfortable, and everything worked. It's the only hotel in this great little town.
The owner or a guest was cooking curry which permeated the common areas. A better breakfast buffet would be an enhancement to the property.

The staff at Country Haven were all pleasant and accommodating. The room was clean. The continental breakfast was very basic, but well stocked and the area clean.
The driveway and parking lot are in extreme need of repaving! And the room furnishings including carpet, bed linens etc, were pretty worn and outdated. In fact, I would guess the hotel has not been upgraded since it was built.
