The hotel itself was great, with friendly staff, spacious rooms (although there was a Shining feel in the corridors), and good breakfast.
The location just isn’t good. To reach the metro you have to walk past groups of people dealing with substance abuse, and they’re there all day. It doesn’t feel particularly safe, especially coming back at night. Every time we returned by metro after dark there were police stationed outside because of ongoing incidents. On top of that, the area is far from lower and mid-Manhattan, so we ended up spending almost two hours a day on the metro. Honestly, it’s worth paying the extra $50-$70 a night and staying somewhere in Manhattan instead.
