Clarion Pointe Lake Jackson - Clute

This hotel is located very close to the event venue for which we came into town. The room was quite spacious and had a throwback feel to a time when travel for any reason was a treat. You could easily imagine it bustling with a crowd, and full of life. The breakfast was a nice setup with good variety, albeit light on protein. The bed was a luxurious traditional firm king size like you'd expect at a high end hotel suite. Two ample nightstands either side of the bed with easy to reach lamps and plugs for accessories complimented the convenient layout. There was a nice chair and ottoman, a desk, a large TV atop an entertainment center with a microwave and hidden mini fridge, and plenty of closet space with great mirrors. The restroom had a nice tub shower with large counter top surrounding the sink, and a somewhat less than standard height commode for more modern times, but comfortable nonetheless. It would have been nice to have a separate switch with a vent fan in the restroom, which it lacked. Overall I rated the stay an 8 out of 10, if you overlook the obvious maintenance issues around the property that don't affect the room itself.

Several areas around the property looked ignored or abandoned. Missing vending machines or ice machines - never saw any, anywhere. The elevator was missing the state certificate with a makeshift "see front desk" sign instead, hardly tacked up. There was old glue residue from old signage, someone's ketchup packet from a fast food order and a smell from 1982 in the elevator as well. Floor tiling and vinyl wood-look flooring was ripped and missing throughout the walkways on every hallway as if they'd just given up on caring what it looks like. The very nice fountain in the main atrium / lobby was dry as a bike and appeared to be out of order. Several mural sized photographs of beach scene places, obviously not local, are peeling at the edges or discolored. The entire property has ceiling issues that a good run of some Kilz paint and new ceiling tiles would remedy. So as long as you don't look up, down or side to side, it's pleasant. This property really had a hay day ... And currently it's gone by the wayside. The several thousand square foot restaurant on site is an abandoned mess of a storage room now as well, and very sad to see. Someone with vision should come in and give this facility new life... Or bulldoze it. For the room and the purpose of the stay? 8 of 10. For the rest? 2 of 10. There's your perfect score... About 30 years apart.

This was an old hotel that needs a lot of repairs. Lobby area was super hot. Nothing of entertainment at this hotel. They do t even have a swimming pool. I had to cancelled our second night
