The 1857

Location is perfect for the Carson Center in Paducah, KY. The center is just across the parking lot from the back door of the 1857 Hotel. In fact, both facilities share the parking lot. The location in "old downtown" gives character to the stay with shops and restaurants literally across the street. The hotel itself is remodeled updated yet, keeping the historical building inside with a clean, industrial motif. Local artists have their works displayed at 2 month intervals following various themes. The art is for sale. The rooms are well appointed with large coffee bar and mini-fridge. The showers and tubs have to be seen! Some rooms have the full shower and tub completely open to the bedroom area. So you might want to consider who you are traveling with to share a room. If modestly doesn't matter...one of you can be taking a large soaking bath while the other dances around under the full rain shower next you. The small "event center" of the 1857 Hotel is indeed a low-key bar with intimate sitting areas for drinks and conversation. There is a stage which could host music or other artist...there it was empty when I was there. I would stay here again.

If you have mobility issues...navigating this older setting could be challenging. For example, of the 2 King Suites, one was upstairs. Front stairs in the lobby were very narrow and STEEP! I used the back stairs (located in the bar/event center) which had 3 sets of landings as I maneuvered the stairs. Using a cane and pulling my carryon luggage...a patron at the bar approached me and offered to assist, which I accepted. I highly recommend that if you have physical/health issues that make stairs difficult, you make the request for a lower level room and get it confirmed. But even the lower rooms have a step down to access the area but it's much better than attempting all the stairs. I'm not sure if they have rooms that are wheelchair/scooter accessible.

Beautifully finished interiors; loved the rain shower, size and comfort of bed.

Room was large and could have used better lighting; need towel racks in bath area

It was a beautiful room. Bed was super comfy. We loved the brick wall. Nice bedding, nice chairs, etc. The shower/tub area was HUGE (though I would've preferred at least glass doors on the shower-ha!) The area around the hotel was fun--quaint little downtown with restaurants/bars and shops etc.

Because we were there on a Sunday, the bar in the hotel was closed, and quite a few of the restaurants/shops around were also closed. That was a bummer, but we still found a couple places that were open and had a lovely time.

suggestions: the room is dark; needs better lighting options overall- also needs to get a natural light option - you could put blinds that pull up from the bottom so that the top of the window can let light in additional- when i first came in the room there was a strong cleaning product smell ...it took away from the overall ambiance of the otherwise very nice room - the smell did go away eventually
