Very clean and a wonderful staff

The room was clean and had a microwave and refrigerator, however if there had been a freezer in the fridge it didn't work. (I would have liked to use it for my freezer packs.) They provided a modest breakfast but typical for this level of lodging. In addition to toast, muffins, bagels, fruit, cereal, and yogurt, there were make-it-yourself waffles. It has a nice pool. The location is right on the beach.
Although it is right on the beach, there is no shade on that part of the beach and it is somewhat down the road from the beach facilities (a beach shop and a couple of restaurants, and also trees that provide shade). There are, however, some restaurants within a block, one on the beach and others inland. There was a little mustiness and a bleachy smell but that's common in beach motels. I once stayed at the other motel in Colonial Beach and came back to the River Edge.

Location and ease of access to the beach and everywhere else.
Needs to be updated. Old carpet, doors don’t close all the way. Rooms have musty smell. Beds hard, blankets more like curtains than blanket.
