Open and airy, cozy and calming.

The serene setting, with a broad view of the southern end of Holmes Harbor, is delightful. The tall windows and spacious living area upstairs bring the peaceful feeling inside. It's the sort of place that makes you want to curl up with a hot drink and a blanket and lose yourself in a book, or just in gaze into the calmness of nature. The small den downstairs is a great place for kids to hang out., and it gives access to a preheated hot tub. Our son hooked up his X-Box and hung out on the hide-a-bed couch in the den. The cozy bedrooms, one with a queen-sized bed and a master with a king-sized bed, were comfortable and inviting. The master offered direct access to the outdoor patio and fire pit.

Though the website stated that no pets were allowed, we noticed a large metal water bowl for dogs outside the front door. Inside, there was a leash and some poop bags provided by the vacation company, as well as another dog bowl and a sign asking to pick up poop. The owners have a framed picture with their dogs on the wall on the stairway landing. We'd left our small dog at home out of respect for the no-pets policy, so we were saddened by the obviously dog-friendly environment. In terms of things that could be improved, the furniture upstairs could be larger and cozier to match the cozy setting. Also, and this has nothing to do with the hosts or property, please note that the minimum stay is about $205 ($74 for room, 10.7% tax of $7.92, $7.84 per night tourism fee, 12% property tourism fee of $8.88, $89.60 cleaning fee per stay, $16.80 water usage fee per night). We booked through Booking.com. Though they listed the fees in tiny print under the $74/night listing, they never showed the total of the fees until *after* they'd made the non-refundable charge on my credit card. They should have listed a total, including all fees, BEFORE the confirmation screen. I expected some taxes, but to see the advertised $74 fee nearly triple, I was shocked. Airbnb lists total costs on each listing. I won't use booking.com again.
