The Craignair Inn & Causeway Restaurant

A friendly welcoming hotel in a great location. The room was spotless, the staff exceptional and the location is a perfect base for expliring the area. And Clark Island is a wonderful preserve for a hike or just relaxing on small sandy beaches. We will return to the Craignair.

The setting, the facility itself, the owners and their team, the dog-friendliness.

Mid-Maine is known for its bays, coves, and views. The view from Craignair was gorgeous, watching tides flow in and out, and a short walk to Clark Hill Nature Preserve.

Having to carry two heavy bags up two steep flights of stairs to get to the room, having the sun come up to brighten the room at 5:10 am, having two single beds shoved together instead of a king, a step-up bathroom.

Really nice location, wonderful innkeeper- apparently a winter housekeeper.

Room was sold as a king bed. It was two twin beds pushed together. With a canyon between the mattresses. Catastrophically uncomfortable. Also, the booking.com website does not indicate that the restaurant is closed for the season, and you have to drive a half hour each way to get meals, drinks, etc. We hoped for a romantic evening where we could have dinner and drinks, then retire for the evening. Nope. In winter, this inn is effectively a Motel 6 with a great view. I’m sure on season its splendid, but why even offer rooms risking feedback like this?
