Great location in a traditional Onsen city. The staff was very attentive and friendly, taking care of everything. Their support covered everything from the arrangement of the food options, recommendations, guidance through the hotel, to finding Yukata in the good size (being a bit bigger than Japanes L is no problem here). We stayed in the Japanese style room with a private Onsen, which I can recommend to everyone. It gives the best ambience for a relaxed stay in a traditional Ryokan , and leaves the option for public bath or private bathing.
The food was of exceptional quality and served by attentive waiters. All arrangements were thoughtful and delivered with excellence. As we did not speak much Japanes, the employees all switched to a well unerstandable English, no matter the age of the person. Even the seniors seemingly working in the Ryokan for quite some time, speak English very well.
This place is a great representation of Japanes Hopsitality. The Onsen city having many shops, and lunch restaurants is a great plus. There are many light hiking trips possible, to explore the unique nature and folklore of the region.
The numbers of outlets may be too little for the more digital travellers. The room can get at times warm, which in the end is a very good reason to utilize the Yukata. ;) For our kind of stay (relaxed two nights with limited screentime on purpose) there were no real impacts by these two points.

The kaiseki dinner and the buffet breakfast were wonderful. We had a private onsen in our room, big enough for two; you could see the mountains through the slats. The staff was very friendly, and the hotel was well situated--we walked to Jikagu Hot Springs and the bear park.
Hmm, they need bigger rubbish cans.

The property is centrally located with the hell valley only a few minutes away on foot. The Onsen is lovely too.
1. The room was outdated and not very clean with stains all over the walls, ceiling and tatami mats.
2. The private onsen bath looked like it is not washed frequently, with slimey mildew all over it and the tub’s wood is showing signs of rotting.
3. The dinner was full of delicacy ingredients like Hokkaido horsehair crab, kinko fish, caviar, etc but they were cooked without skill and tasted bland. The Wagyu tasted outright not fresh.
4. During dinner, the staff barely explained the ingredients or how to eat them, unlike in other ryokans we visited.
5. The staff in the hotel acted like they don’t really care about you, this was unlike any other experience that we had in Japan, where staff usually always goes an extra mile for the guest. The only helpful and nice person was a black-haired gentleman at reception.
