I loved everything. Dinner was exquisite, breakfast was delicious. The feeling of the lobby and the fireplace from the moment I checked in. Every staff member was so friendly and welcoming.

Great location next to the lake. Beautiful, elegant mid-century modern meets Japanese zen environment. Excellent sauna and onsen. Massage therapist, Noro, in the spa, is excellent for shiatsu massage (they only do dry massage, meaning no lotion or oil is used and onsen outfit provided in the room is always fully on)— I had 3 massages with Noro while there. Half board had good options, skewed toward Japanese cuisine, not surprisingly. Excellent staff service everywhere.
Hard to find the hotel entrance: mis-translated sign in the driveway in meant we disregarded our GPS directions at the final minute before pulling in. Ignore the sign and drive into the throughway to get to the lobby.

The location, within a national park and a 5 minutes walk to lake Shikotsu, was the best selling point of this resort. I opted for half board, which included buffet breakfast and lunch, and it was a wide-spread with delectable dishes.
Everyone at the resort was polite and friendly. Having Google translation on hand is a bonus. However, the front desk receptionist staff were not as delightful. They both spoke English and they made check-out unpleasant.
