as an occidental turist in japan, i enjoyed pretty much everything about kumoi hotel.
it was easy to book, the place is comfortable and nice, the little onsen is very good, the staff is helpful and friendly... all that on a budget compared to the surrounding crowded luxury onsen hotels.
from my experience, this question does not apply for the case of kumoi.
however, i guess some occidental turists could complain a bit about the japanese breakfast (including fish and miso soup) which maybe too different to what we are used to.
my reservation did not include the dinner, and thus i cannot say anything about it.

They were generous with the evening tea and the liquor. We love the scrub and the onsen. The place was very comfortable and the staff was very friendly.
The rooms were a bit small but they made up for it with all of the above.

Das Essen war fantastisch, das Entrée und der Aufenthaltsbereich sind sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet.
Wir haben unsere Koffer vom Hotel aus verschickt, das Personal war sehr hilfreich und hat uns perfekt unterstützt.
Die Lage ist optimal für Bergtouren. In unmittelbarer Nähe zur Gondel.
Das Onsen müsste renoviert werden.

We like the location in the breakfast. Other than that, the property was very uncomfortable for us. there were no western chairs in the rooms. And I think this is something important that future guests need to know.
No western chairs 🪑 in the room.
No, it’s not a lot of room for storage. Not many flat surfaces.
It is a very Japanese style room, which is fine, but very uncomfortable for me
