John at reception was the absolute highlight of that stay.

John was an absolute professional, very friendly, very helpful, even taking the time and effort to look for accommodation in other towns /areas for the rest of the stay (outside Dover). John also gave me some aspirins and could answer any question I had. Really a great manager.

Maybe a general issue in that part of the UK: many B&B's seem to have outdated equipment (shower, toilet, etc). Some modernization may become unavoidable soon. And due to the August bank holiday weekend, the rates were quite high (150 GBP or more), which is far beyond the usual price/quality ratio for a modest B&B room without breakfast.

Pleasant stay in the classic British interior in the centre of Dover

The guest house is located close to the Dover castle, seaside and the city centre. Our room was quite spacious, with a beamed ceiling, two beautiful windows with outside flower boxes and was furnished in the "old" style. The bed was excellent. We were warmly welcomed by the concierge John, who gave us a great introduction to the city's history.

The shower's water pressure was a bit weak.

The host was very kind and helpful. The home was very clean. If you are mobile and healthy, you can easily walk to Dover Castle and the Cliffs of Dover from this location. Great pub right around the corner.

The bathroom needs to be updated. Toilet is separate from the shower and sink. It's very awkward. The toilet door is broken. Multiple times, we got stuck. If one of us hadn't been in the room to open it from the outside, you could get locked in! Shower water pressure is very low. Decor is very tired. Owners should hire a decorator to make some updates. Our room was very cold. Took a long time to warm up to a tolerable temperature.

We'll repeat it!

Perfect location, quiet and clean hotel. Easy to park. John, the Concierge, is who really makes the difference among other hotels. He was so helpful and gave us the best advices to visit Dover. There were many places to visit, some of them we missed because we were just one day in Dover, so we'll come back at some point and for sure we'll choose again St Martins Guest House.

Disappointing

John was charming and very helpful. Walking distance to town Centre and the castle but on a very steep hill.

There was no breakfast just kettle with tea and coffee in the room. Very small shower in the corner of the room next to wash basin. Toilet enclosed in another corner. One night was enough and we would not book this again.

Usually, in a hotel review, you'd talk about things such as room size, cleanliness, etc. And don't get me wrong - all of these things were good too. But what really differentiates this hotel from others was John, the Concierge. He was incredibly helpful and very fun to talk to. Would gladly stay there again!

A nice and cosy guesthose with an outstanding host on a perfect location

A very nice and cosy guesthouse with a very good, gentle and nice host. He had all kinds of interessting stories to tell about Dover and its history. The room itself was decotated as a classic English room with almost vintage furniture. Nevertheless everything was very clean and the room had a fresh smell. The place was directly near the city centre but also very quiet.

Shower and bed are very small for a guy who is 2 meter tall. For an accomodation like this, without breakfast, the price is pretty high. We have had better prices including breakfast. But we knew this beforehand so it is not realy a minus.

A charming host and a charming guesthouse.

From the moment we arrived at St Martin’s John made us feel very welcome. He carried our very heavy bag up the stairs for us and gave us a potted history of Dover together with several suggestions for dinner. Not only that but he also booked an early morning taxi for us to ensure we were on time for our ferry. We were just sorry it was such a short stay. Thank you John for being such a wonderful host.

There wasn’t a thing we didn’t like.

Cozy and cheerful guest house near the heart of Dover

It was a cute little place with a charming retro ambiance. John the manager was extremely friendly and helpful. Convenient and quiet location very near the center of town.

The on suit was a shower cubical in the room and the toilet was in a cupboard not worth paying £97.00 per night for may be £40.00 per as a last minute resort, this took me back to the early 80`s.

We had a great time at St Martins guest house! The room was extremely clean and comfortable with all the toiletries and tea and coffee. The location is excellent at about 25 min walk to the Dover cliffs and about 10/15 minutes from Dover Priory Station. The concierge is very kind and funny. He has amazing knowledge of the history of Dover and will be gladly tell you all the stories about it. We really enjoyed our stay at St Martins!

For the price paid, included breakfast would have been nice.

Nice 2-day stay in the UK, coming from the continent.

Very friendly caretaker! Helpful much beyond the line of duty. Appartement was very comfortable, nothing to complain about. As far as Dover is concerned - not you primary tourist destination, a bit run-down (courtesy also from the German artillery in the 40s), but excellent bus connections to e.g. Canterbury and nice start for a hike along the White Cliffs. Also: very conveniently located at the end of the ferry from Calais or Dunkirk. Bottom-line: we enjoyed the stay and would not - with hindsight knowledge - have changed anything to our trip.

Everything a bit old-fashioned, with shower in the room (but everything worked perfectly!). If you expect a typical cofortable English environment (you have to walk 400 m/yards for breakfast), you will be satisfied. If you expect a 21st century modern boutique hotel, you will be disappointed.

We recommend St. Marten's Guest House!

We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of our stay at St. Martins Guest House. The concierge, John, was very helpful, attentive, and friendly. The room was large with English decor and a sitting area. The location was ideal for us...very close to a pub, a grocery store, some other stores, and chain restaurants. We like to walk, so for us it was walking distance to the beach promenade, Dover Castle, downtown Dover, and the promenade at the beach area. We walked from the train station, but it is about a 10-15 minute walk. We also walked to the White Cliffs from our hotel...twice! The only quirky thing about the room is that the toilet is in a separate room from the sink and shower. We did not mind, but good to know. We were also able to leave our luggage here before and after checkout, so we could fully enjoy our time in Dover.

I cannot think of anything that we did not like.
