About this farm stay rental

Located in Guia, this charming farm stay for $306 per night is a fantastic option for your next break. Casa do Grego has glorious sea views and stands alone in an unspoilt area of outstanding natural beauty. It is set back from a cliff-top with uninterrupted views down to the Sao Rafael beaches overlooking fig and olive trees and many mature mimosas and umbrella pines. The Grego is a 5 bedroom converted 160 year old farmhouse but has been sympathetically modernised to retain many of its original features including its bread oven, cisterna and water catchment area. It is a family home with a well-equipped modern kitchen, TV, WiFi, DVD player, outside terraces, barbecue and a gated heated 9x4m swimming pool with gentle graduated steps. Casa do Grego is within easy walking distance of the beaches of Sao Rafael with impressive beach cafes, the new prize-winning marina of Albufeira and many excellent restaurants. Albufeira is located in the central Algarve and is close to several golf courses, a riding school, slide and splashes and Zoomarine - well worth a visit with or without children. The farmhouse is built along traditional lines with walls nearly 1 metre thick in places, mainly stone tiles on the floors and air vents through the roof in various places. The combination of these features and the regular on-shore sea breeze mean that it is rarely too hot. There is, however, a fan in each bedroom just in case the wind drops at night - a rare occurrence.

We paid £5350 for two weeks. The property was mostly as described except that, once we'd paid an extra £280 to heat the pool, the pool heating kept tripping the electricity meaning the annex boathouse didn't have electricity for 5 of our 14 days. This meant no fans or ability to raise/lower the shutters. The weather was warm so we had some sliding windows open; this meant we suffered from insect bites. The agent worked with a local electrician and pool maintenance to rectify the issue but couldn't determine the fault - therefore it repeatedly occured, including our final night when we had to pack in the dark using torches. The pool equipment was also in a poor state of repair including the umbrellas, cover and pool net. The maintenance company, despite visiting several times over the heating, also didn't treat the pool correctly meaning it turned a milky green in the last week of our stay. The owner agreed to a 50% refund of the money for heating the pool (£140), as the pool wasn't heating when the electricity tripped, only then to recharge under a VRBO breakages policy for a similar amount (£104). We were then also accused of other breakages or being responsible for a missing laundry basket. This wasn't negotiated or discussed by the owner. They just submitted the charge to VRBO who charged our account without my permission or recourse. They made no mention of the nights without electricity other than it was a known problem from the spring; they thought it had gone away (it hadn't!) The location itself was very nice, up on the cliffs and near the marina. Uber to town was between €5 and €10 for 5 of us meaning we didn't need to hire a car. We enjoyed our holiday but the subsequent interaction with the owner has been disappointing.

We had a fantastic time as a family at this property. It's an old-style farmhouse building - so don't expect pristine condition. But, everything was clean/tidy, and the kitchen had all you needed to cook/BBQ. The house is up a reasonably steep hill so we would recommend a car if you have people in your group that struggle to walk. Be prepared to walk longer distances to reach places (30+ mins) or drive short journeys (5mins). Very close to Albufeira marina (down the hill) and in easy reach of Albufeira old town by car/longer walk. The pool was great! Overall excellent value for money.

The property provided a lovely base for our family to get together after such a long time. The villa had everything we needed and was ideal for young children. We had all our meals outside looking at the view and enjoyed spending time in the lovely pool which was safely behind a gated access point. We would recommend Caso do Greco to anyone.

We stayed in this spacious villa with our children and grandchild. The annex was ideal for the couple with the baby. The kitchen is very well equipped. There are rooftop views of the beautiful local beaches which we walked to. The pool is great and the outdoor dining area is brilliant. A nice walk to the marina and lovely local seafood restaurant too. We would highly recommend this villa.

After an initial checkin problem, there was a quick property reaction and everything was solved as wished. Location perfect, Sao Raphael Beach 10 minutes walk, as well as the Marina. House in classic furniture style, has everything, big equiped kitchen (for 11 people), nice Grill at the pool, at night you can delight full stars sky view, no neighbours or annoying sounds. We didn't asked for Pool Heating and it was not neceessary because of weather in august. A nice breeze runs in the afternoons at the garden, so you feel very comfortable until night comes while having dinner.
