The Houses of History is located on the shore of Belső-tó in Tihany, on a half hectare area, a 5-minutes walking distance from the city center. The 200-years-old historic listed building gives the ambiance of the 19th century.

The hotel’s unique look was great, typical Hungarian style. I liked the furniture and renovated bathroom. Location is great, close to everything, however Tihany is quite small.
I felt the price was too high for what you get.
The breakfast is quite basic, and having a proper, good-quality coffee would really improve the experience. The capsule coffee machines are not particularly environmentally friendly, and the coffee itself wasn’t very good. A simple drip coffee machine would be a much better alternative.
Unfortunately, the rooms have very little soundproofing, so you can hear a lot from the hallways and neighbouring rooms. This made it difficult to properly relax and rest, especially when there were children running up and down the hallway.
The TV in the room was also very small. Parking is expensive, and it feels like there are no real alternatives, so you essentially have to pay the fee. Some curtains or another form of window covering would also be nice.
The coffee machine in our room didn’t work either.
Overall, there are several small things that could be improved, and considering the price, I expected a higher level of comfort and amenities.

The Houses of History is a beautiful property, based in a set of buildings that was formerly a farm run by the local Abbey. The landscaping is exquisite, the buildings are beautiful, the breakfast is spectacular, and overall it is just great. We stayed in a family suite, with lovely historic decorations, an in-room Nespresso machine and fridge, and very comfortable beds.
There are only two things that reduce this from a 10 to a 9.
First, the pool area is attractive and comfortable, but the pool is not a normal inground pool. It appears to be an above ground pool that was placed in a hole. There are no stairs to enter, only a ladder, and there is no shallow area for kids. The depth was probably 5 feet. There were some screws and hooks protruding on the edge because it was not built into the ground. We still enjoyed the pool, even with a novice swimmer, but we would’ve spent more time in the pool if it had been more kid friendly.
The other issue is the shower in the bathroom, which should have a handle for safer in and out stepping. The tub has very high sides, and you need to step over the edge of the tub into the shower. It would be natural to have something to hold onto, but there is nothing available. We are very tall and do not have mobility issues, and even we found this to be a little bit tricky.

Quiet, beautiful, comfortable, compelling.
Our room had some low support beams. Quirky! But unfortunate if you’re distracted and not very short.
