Beyond its central location, one of the biggest reasons to stay at Hostel Galeria 13 is the host, Paulo.
Paulo is genuinely one of the kindest and most patient hostel owners I have ever met. Every day, he goes out of his way to make sure his guests feel welcome, comfortable and well looked after.
I was feeling unwell when I first arrived in Salvador, and whenever I had a question or needed help, Paulo always took the time to listen patiently and give me a thoughtful and genuinely useful response. He does this for all his guests, regularly keeping in touch through WhatsApp and sending personalised suggestions each day based on what you might enjoy doing.
The location is great, but for me, it was Paulo’s warmth and hospitality that really made my stay special. If you’re coming to Salvador, I’d definitely recommend staying at Hostel Galeria 13. You’ll not only have a great base for exploring the city, but you’ll also feel genuinely welcomed and looked after!

The owner is very kind and gives detailed recommendations on great places to eat in Salvador. They also share the latest information in a WhatsApp group, which is very helpful. The fresh juice served at breakfast is absolutely delicious.
I had a little trouble connecting to the Internet.

It’s the best hostel in Salvador!
The owner and the staff are wonderful people : welcoming, helpful and always there for you. The rooms are big, very comfortable, place is very clean and breakfast is amazing with homemade bread. Every day you will be informed about activities, restaurants and places you should see.
Hostel is in the heart of old town and close to everything. You can meet other travellers and hang out but also you can have your quiet time and chill.
Amazing place with the soul.

Great central location, tasty breakfast, friendly English speaking staff, and a helpful WhatsApp group with daily tips for places to visit and eat.
The area can feel unsafe when arriving late at night, but it becomes easier to navigate once you settle in the next day. This is not a criticism of the hostel, just a tip about the area. It is charming, but requires a little extra caution
