Great stay in Puerto Viejo

Lovely family run place! Staff were kind with great English, the room was nice and clean. A brilliant location. And two lovely hotel dogs!

lovely place but no sleep past 4am due to how noisy it is

the location is amazing, the man who we checked in with was lovely, the hammock in the balcony area is so cute and the parking is great

the way the rooms have been built means it’s basically like sleeping in a tent so be aware if you are looking for rest or a good sleep. we didn’t sleep past 4am any morning for 3 nights due to extremely loud birds right around our room. love nature, used to camping all over the world however the fact that you don’t have a fully bricked room means you hear absolutely everything around. the birds are not just normal volume either- Apple earphones and white noise blocker didn’t even help!! having travelled for 12 months full term now- this is one of the noisiest rooms we’ve had. it’s also extremely hot due to only having a Weak fan and no air con so it’s super stuffy. lots of mozzies but no problems with that- it is expected and we’re used to that after 12 months!

Very pleasant.

The hotel owner was very helpful with finding out about two cancelled day tours. He called for me since my phone did not work there. The hotel is a nice quiet place, with a pleasant central area, and near the edge of town but still with easy walking into town or the trail south. Room was spacious.

one of the best budget friendly choices

amazing place, the owner is so helpful and friendly, due to an accident we had to prolong our stay here and he did everything he could. 10 min walk to the center, very clean bathroom although shared, good value for money

Cabinas are located on a side street, not next to the main road, but one can walk anywhere in Puerto Viejo. Building is clean and there are a lot of plants around. You can fill your water bottle with filtered water. The receptionist (not sure if she was also the owner)was very helpful and competent.

Walls are very thin and there is no glass in the windows, only nets, so you hear literally everything - cars driving to other houses, children crying etc.

centrally located and good value for longer stay for a family.

We were a family of four (2 adults, 1 year old and 5 year old) staying for a week here in the bungalow. The location is central in town and is easy to get to the beaches and stores. The staff was a nice family and the cleaning staff was very friendly. Our room was clean and the beds (1 king and 1 queen) were comfortable. It was good for our family to have a small kitchen, fridge,TV, screened windows and AC. Thank you for the hospitality.

If you are looking for a lively social atmosphere, this is not a great fit. We had a lot of ants in the kitchen, but this seems to be the case at most places we have stayed in Costa Rica. The dogs were nice but did bark a lot. We would’ve liked a few more amenities in our room, like a broom and dustpan.

cosy hotel situated between jungle and town!

staff were so friendly and helpful. it was clean and comfortable and the rooms cosy. good house keeping. wifi is excellent. the family here make you feel so welcome and part of their life, can’t not mention the doggies who are always happy to see you!

would be nice to have a spot where you could get coffee in the communal area,

Close and inside the village. The people at the place nice, the booking assistance - less...

At the first night as we arrived we had a cockroach waiting for us on one of the towels. The same happened at the second time. We proffered leaving the place and not staying for the third night although the lady from the booking didn't agree to refund us. They decided to refuse a refund although we wanted to leave in the morning, they didn't even try to help and offer the room to someone else and even though Booking.com agreed for the early leave. Not really recommended. I'm sure there are places with the same types and better solutions.

Staff and dogs were lovely, everything perfectly clean and good location - lots to do in the area. We were there in low season so very quiet :)

Everything was great. Only tiny thing it would have been nice to have more hooks to hang things on in the room, for 3 people we got messy very quickly:D

Very basic accommodation for regular price

The hostel is well located, quite clean and we could check few hours earlier. Good WiFi.

The room wasn't as big as on photos and was very basicaly equipped, there was even no wardrobe, only two clothes hangers. No mosquito net, no A/C, only one lamp and one socket for whole room. Shower has broken, toilet didn't flush. There is no common area, kitchen, kettle, cuttlery, sink, nothing! (I mean the "common area" is, but still occupied by owners, their children, dogs, laundry etc.) The owner said we can put our milk into their fridge, but in the morning (6.30 AM) kitchen was locked with a padlock and we had to eat our flakes with cold water (ugh!) In such style provided hotels you don't feel expected and respected as a guest, just like easy income. No one did anything to make your stay pleasant, enjoyable and memorable.

It was clean and the staff was friendly.

I knew that they don’t have a common kitchen. But during my stay I realized that I missed a coffee in the morning. Most breakfast places opened around 8:30am which was too late for me. The owners gave me a plate so that I could eat some fruits in the morning which was nice. It’s a nice place if you plan to eat at restaurants all the time and if you are looking for a quiet place.

Perfectly located and still quite

The Cabinas are very well located and still quite (no party noise). Rooms are nice. Parking for the car was always available.

Reception almost never open. Recommendable to have at least 1-2 hours per day with a fix schedule. Rooms are very small, no place for the luggage.

Clean and Comfortable Spot in Central Spot in Puerto Viejo

Clean and comfortable lodging in Puerto Viejo! 5 minutes walking to the beach. You do not need a car to stay here and explore the surrounding area. Iris and her family are lovely and super hospitable and personable. I felt very comfortable staying here. I stayed in the kind bed room with private bathroom by myself then when I had a friend meet me here for a few days, we switched to a room with two beds (one double and one twin) with shared bathroom. They keep the shared bathroom spotless too. They also own a fitness center right down the road from the cabins, where guests of Monte Sol can get a discount to use the gym which I thought was such a cool perk and added bonus! I had a very comfortable stay here and highly recommend to anyone looking for a clean, quiet and comfortable place to sleep.

Please note they have two dogs on the premises. At first, I was scared but they are nice dogs.
