The accommodation was top-notch on all aspects: location, equipments, cleanliness and the stunning view on Madeira. Akira is on top that the nicest host you can have, always helpful and kind.

Eftersom det var galet varmt utomhus så blev det ganska varmt även inomhus. Men det fanns ordentliga fläktar. :-)

Exceptionally clean with fabulous views. Communication from Akira was superb. Apartment had everything we needed and more.

The selling point of this property is the view from the terrace. During the day you can enjoy the sea view whilst having a morning coffee or sunbathing, and at night you can look at the stars and the lights around the island. The flat is very clean, fresh and well kept. The owners left us a couple of beers and a water in the fridge as well as a bottle of wine and expresso coffee, which was very kind. They also ensured that there was a shampoo and a shower gel in a bathroom which is very helpful and thoughtful. The location is about 10 mins walking down to the old town/marina, however on the way up it’s more like 20 mins as it’s very steep. If you’re fit and healthy, you can manage the walk. I would not recommend it to anyone with mobility issues, unless you want to spend money on the cab to and from the town. I mean even we gave up at some point and got a cab on the way back to the flat. The whole island is like that and it means you can enjoy amazing views, when you’re in the flat.

We are unsure as to why the property is called ‘luxurious’. Whilst it is perfectly fine, it is not ‘above normal’ which you would expect from a ‘luxurious’ flat. After all it does not have an air con or a dishwasher. However, this wasn’t an issue for us, as we chose the flat for its views and a location, away from the big and busy hotel area in Funchal. However, we complained to the owner about the noise coming from the nearby building site on a week day (weekend was fine). We decided that we had no other alternative but to leave the flat, as we were unable to spend time relaxing on the terrace in light of the ongoing noise. It wasn’t an easy decision at all, but this was our first holiday after the pandemic (and only one this year), and we were disappointed to be woken up by drilling noise early in the morning. It continued throughout the day, which made it difficult spending time in the terrace. Despite explaining the reason for leaving and sending the footage of the noise to the owner, we were not offered a refund for the rest of the stay. The explanation for this was that apparently ‘some other people renting the adjacent flats didn’t complain about any noise’. I felt like our experience didn’t matter. It should be irrelevant whether anyone else has complained or not. The owner gave us a lift to another hotel we had to book last minute, which was appreciated. However, whilst the noise was out of the owner’s control, we should have been informed beforehand that there was a building site nearby, so that we could make an informed decision as to whether to stay there or go somewhere else. Instead, the owner seemed to be completely unaware of the issue and despite kindly offering us a lift, he was not as accommodating as we would wish, leaving us having to pay more for our holidays than originally planned.
