I’ve been traveling around Southeast Asia with my wife, and Coco Cottage was a very pleasant surprise. We like to visit places that are off the mainstream tourist path, and that’s exactly why we chose Koh Ngai.
If you haven’t researched the island yet, here are a few tips. Koh Ngai is a stunning island, and part of its charm is the rocky and coral-filled shoreline. This makes it an excellent place for snorkeling. Some of the best snorkeling we experienced was actually right in the reefs around the hotel’s beach. Following the staff’s recommendation, we also went diving around the two nearby islands, and it was magnificent. It genuinely felt like diving inside an aquarium.
Parents traveling with small children should be aware that almost the entire stretch of beach has rocks, coral, and marine life. For this reason, Koh Ngai is generally not the most suitable island for very young children. If you are not comfortable walking barefoot in these conditions, water shoes can be very helpful, both for swimming and for snorkeling.
We stayed in a bungalow in front of the small lake, with an ocean view. The room was very clean, beautifully maintained, and finished with good-quality materials. Everything was impeccable. The outdoor shower was also a lovely touch — I really enjoyed taking a shower under the moonlight every night.
The swimming pool was great as well, especially with the sea view.
The restaurant was also very good. We had almost all of our meals there, and I thought the prices were very fair considering the location and the quality of the food.
If you’ve been to Thailand before, you already know how friendly and welcoming Thai people are. But the staff here were exceptional, even by Thai standards. Unfortunately, I forgot their names, which I really regret, because every single member of the team was incredibly kind, helpful, and attentive.
We stayed for four nights in late August, and overall, Coco Cottage exceeded our expectations.

Very isolated. Few other tourists. No very small children. Good range of well priced food. Nice pool. Good shower that was open to the sky. Nice, obliging staff.
Transfer from Trang Airport is expensive but no other airport is closer. Wet landing so be prepared for water over the knees depending on tide. Beach is not really suitable for swimming.

Cute cabins by the sea with a very sweet staff.
No help for arrival and departure, impersonal. Very Bad internet, AC off in hottest part of the day, unnecessarily complicated systems for coffee and water, super kind staff…not educated in customer service…or English…the small pool was full of screaming and splashing children throughout the day…Guests race to beach chairs and mark spots with towels before disappearing for hours (German style) and there’s a bit of scarcity for chairs/lounges near beach considering the number of guests! For better or worse, showers are outdoors and commode room is a sweat box…expensive for food and accommodation given relative quality…Ngai is also a manufactured island experience with no local population and very little infrastructure…I couldn’t help but wonder where the contents of the loo went when I pressed the button (in the sweat box) and it all disappeared…
