About this house rental

Nestled in Marion, this attractive house for $152 per night is a fantastic option for your next break. Our 100 year old, sharecropper houses are completely restored on their original location on a working farm in Historic Mound City, Arkansas at the foot of the Mississippi River levee. Pet friendly--off leash, tons of space for pets! 7 minutes to downtown Memphis Read National Geographic write up by searching: NATGEO MOUND CITY SHARECROPPER HOUSE. This house is located on a working farm! There are four 100 year old sharecropper homes. We also have two new homes designed in a similar style. All are located on a private road facing the Mississippi River levee. Mound City was named by the early settlers for the Indian Mounds located on this property. It was an important river town for east - west trade during the late 1700s and early 1800s. Mound City was burned by Federal troops in 1863, but remained an important trading town until the Harahan bridge was finished in 1892. The Harahan Bridge now accommodates a spectacular pedestrian and bicycle crossing connecting Arkansas and Tennessee, and is easily accessible from the house. The old commissary at Mound City was featured as a honky tonk, in scenes of the movie "Great Balls of Fire", featuring Dennis Quaid as Jerry Lee Lewis. It is located two hundred yards from the house, and is being restored. This particular house was completely restored in 2017 and has 2 bedrooms and one bath. There are three window unit A/C's, (one in each bedroom) and heaters in each room. The Unit in the living area is both a heater and A/C. The full kitchen has dishwasher, gas stove, refrigerator/freezer. This house is located at the south end of a row of 6 restored farmhouses, on a private, gated road near the headquarters of this beautiful 500 acre farm. We produce rice, corn, soybeans, wheat as well as some speciality crops-heirloom corn for grits and cornmeal, kale, turnips, pumpkins and gourds for the local markets. Our houses are safe and quiet--a very convenient and close retreat from the hustle and bustle of downtown Memphis. They are all fully furnished

I’m surprised to be asked to review this stay as it had to be cancelled last minute. I’m happy to do it, however, because I wanted an opportunity to rave about the host. The area suffered a major power outage the day of our scheduled stay. Not only did we receive a call from the owner in plenty of time to change our plans, but we were given a resource to help us find an alternative plan that would accommodate our (3) pups. Luckily we did find a place to stay, but it was in no way as lovely as our stay at this property would have been. As we have stayed at one of the cottages on the property before, I feel comfortable saying that our stay would have been cozy and comfortable! The owner takes great pride in making guests feel welcomed by leaving fresh eggs and other goodies in the fridge and keeping everything spotless. Beds are comfortable and bathrooms are equipped with special soaps, etc. Our dogs enjoyed the farm with loads of space to explore. We hope to try again in the future!

My friend and I were at the end of our road trip from Atlanta and I chose to stay at this place because I live on a farm and thought it would be a nice change from hotels or other stays. It was wonderful! Loved the property and the owners are amazing. There was a little. mix up when we got there and had to have the cleaning lady come back in, but overall had a great stay. Would recommend to anyone and if ever in the area, would stay again. Thanks to Emily and Charlie! (One recommendation - would not suggest elderly stay in this particular cabin as the floors are uneven. No problem for me, but for someone with unstable gait, might present a bit of a problem. Adds to the charm though!)
