Nestled in Northport, this charming house for $460 per night is a great choice for your next break. Located on beautiful West Grand Traverse Bay, this very cute and charming, 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom cottage is in the charming village of Northport. The house has a fire pit and a large, covered porch overlooking the expansive view of the bay. It is a short walk to downtown Northport, which offers gift shops, restaurants, a playground and much more. There is music in the park during the summer, and it is also a short drive to the Grand Traverse Lighthouse, Christmas Cove, and Peterson Park. Dock is not guaranteed due to high water levels. Shorelines will change with high water levels. Your well-mannered pet is welcome. -- THE PROPERTY – Sleeps 6. It's a house but has a bit of an old cabin feel. Great location - on a beautiful beach, uncrowded outside, walk to town. It comes with more than is in the description - outside chairs, fire pit, fans inside. The upstairs is an entirely separate apartment, which is great, altho the beds are kind of small. The second bedroom downstairs is also small, better for kids. Overall a really goood place.

The cleanliness of the rental was terrible. Upon arrival, we noted that the rental was dirty, i.e.: • Sheets on the bed were worn and thin, • Bathtub mat was moldy, • Pillow case had a blood stain on it, • Coffeemaker was not clean: old coffee and grounds, • Shelf paper in cupboards was dirty and stained , • Silverware drawers were full of crumbs, • Dog hair on the carpet, • Grit on all the floors, • Food under the couch, • Bathroom tile falling from the wall, • Upstairs shower door would not close properly, • Teakettle had a hole in it and leaked water all over the stove top and floor, • Closets were full of “stuff” and unusable, • Food on outdoor floor and table on porch, • Hornet’s nests around the rental (per an exterminator 5 nests), • Trash in the yard by the entry way steps, • and more. When we first arrived at the property, we were horrified. There were multiple cobwebs and many dead bugs on both door entrances (entry and upstairs). When we called to advise the rental agent, we were informed that rentals typically get dirty quickly due to being on a beach. The agent did send out the exterminator and did have someone come out to clean the coffeemaker, but everything else stayed the same. We take one week’s vacation per summer. We were there with our two teenage children. None of us wanted to spend any time at the property. We paid a lot of money for the property and did not get what we paid for. What bothers us the most is that we called and specifically discussed this property with your agent before renting it. We were told that it was a lovely unit, in a great area and that it has a great repeat rental business. Your rental agency was recommended to us by several friends who live in the area and by multiple neighbors in Columbus who frequently vacation in northern Michigan.

I owned a cottage in Cherry Homes and rented it through Visit Up North for 12 years, and there is a pest control operation in Traverse City who will come up to Northport. We had one application annually, and that took care of all pests for the season. Highly recommend, otherwise great place.

When we unlocked the door the smell of dust and greasy cooking odors flowed out. This house has not been properly cleaned in a very long time. We left and purchased cleaning supplies and then returned and spent about 2 hours cleaning the place. We bought a coffee maker and a toaster to use while we were there because the ones provided were so nasty. The floors hadn't been swept and the upstairs bedding had not been changed. The front porch was really bad too. We purchased a broom and swept the outdoor furniture and entire porch off before we could enjoy the view. One of the chairs in the living room was so broken down that you couldn't sit in it. Just because the house is old it doesn't need to be dirty. It could be so nice if it was better maintained. The location is perfect!

Our only disappointment was cleanliness. There was dog hair everywhere, dirty finger prints on kitchen appliances and cabinet handles, and the 1st floor bath had dust and hair all over it.
I did a quick vacuum and wipe down of the dirty surfaces. I also understand that this is a dog friendly rental, so a little dog hair would have been expected but this was clumps and hair everywhere as if it had not been vacuumed.
However, location location location was perfect and our family very much enjoyed the dock and perfect access to swimming.
The property management was excellent with speedy service to replace a broken shower head!!!

Was a great vacation! The house was nicely redone, but very small for 5 people. The living area was cute, but it was very small for all 5 of us. A washer and dryer, as well as AC would have been helpful. The kitchen did not have a designated space for a pantry, and was missing a number of key items. The kitchen also had limited counter space for food prep. I think for what we paid, the house needed more living space. The staff at Visit Up North was phenomenal. We had a tv break, and they had a repair man there within 24 hours, and a message when he would show up! Every time I called with questions, they were always answered completely, and with patience. We almost had a situation where we had to cancel last minute, due to a father's health condition, and the staff member who I spoke with was really gracious and understanding. You guys are great! This is our second Up North vacation rental.

A large hornets nest existed under the stairway landing beneath the only door to access rented bedrooms. Hornets stinging us alerted us to their presence. I contacted Up North at 4:50 PM and requested advice. I offered to remove the the 5" diameter by 8" long nest myself or Up North could send someone. The Up North representative emphatically dismissed my offer of self help and assured me that an exterminator would be dispatched immediately.
The self-help approach seemed prudent a little after 7 PM with no sign of an exterminator and Up North representatives being in absentia. The owner initially hosed the nest with wasp spray. The owner and I then took turns knocking the nest down with a long stick and water from a garden hose. The promised exterminator appeared the following morning. This was necessary as the remaining wasps were trying to rebuild their nest.

Barefoot Beach was the perfect locale for my husband and I to stay with our daughter, her husband, and our 1-year old grandson. We babysat while they were able to walk into town to enjoy a friend's wedding, reception, and next day bonfire party!. The cottage was charming, we'll equipped, and right on a beautiful, uncrowded stretch of private beach. The bedroom situation was fine for us--we used the outside stairway to access the upstairs bedroom--the beds were comfortable and the bathroom fine, but the slanted ceilings upstairs ( which we knew about before renting) make it somewhat difficult to navigate. That being said, we would rent this cute little house again! The porch overlooking the lake was reason enough!

We stayed at the Barefoot Beach Retreat in August 2015. It is a wonderful old cottage with lots of charm and character. The furniture is very comfortable as well as the beds. We really enjoyed the covered porch. We sat out there most of the time during our entire stay and just took in the beautiful view. The beach and water are hard packed sugar sand which is perfect for swimming. We will be recommending this place to everyone.

We had a great time in Northport at this unit. The location on the water couldn't be beat. The home was very clean and all the utensils and linens we needed were provided. Although it is an older house, it has been well maintained and one can see that attention has been given to updating the house, especially the bathroom and kitchen. We thought it was unusual that access to the upstairs bedroom was from an outside staircase. On the other hand, our teen though it was ideal. There were many things to do and see in the area. Although we had planned to spend some time in Traverse City we didn't feel the need to do so. It was great having 3 bedrooms. The kids did watch some cable TV and we used the wifi. The wifi signal seemed a little weak and we had some disconnections but we were just checking and writing email so it wasn't a big issue at all. The staff was very helpful and experienced we had all the information we needed. We liked being within walking distance of restaurants and the grocery store. We would definitely rent again.

The lake was a bit colder than we would have liked, but the cottage and the town -- as well as the whole peninsula -- were as stellar as always. We seem to discover something new each vacation. This year, it was the Northport Youth Summer Sailing camp, and Longview Winery. We've already reserved our time for 2015....can't wait to return.

The rental company is very professional and pleasant to deal with, the location of the cottage is wonderful and it has the charm of a traditional northern Michigan cottage. We were very disappointed in the description of the cottage. It is VERY small for the price! The upstairs bedroom ceiling is 6 ft. tall at the top peak and has a steep slope. The walking room is essentially 3 feet wide before you hit your head! It is not at all appropriate for Adults and certainly not my 17 year old son who is 6'4". The family room only has seating for 4; a club chair and sofa for 3. The cottage is advertised as sleeping 6, 7 or 8 depending upon the ad for it. This is not at all accurate. The condition of the cottage is basically good. There are windows that do not lock or are not operational and the kitchen floor has soft spots in the subfloor. If the description of the cottage was accurate and truly reflected the cottage, we would have known what we were getting and therefore would not have been disappointed at our arrival.

We got relief from a hornet's nest, grass & shrubs got trimmed, ants sprayed, and new kitchen faucet replaced as a result of my management call. Why didn't the owner check these things out before our visit? Felt that children were endangered with the insects. Kitchen was full of ants the day after our arrival. If not fixed, the porch & railing & bedroom ceiling will start to cave in eventually. Makeshift geese barrier doesn't work--much poop. Relatives live next door so we played mostly there. Location is perfect, however.

You really cant beat the view from Barefoot Beach. It was wonderful to sit on the patio inches from the water roasting marshmallows in the firepit. The village of Northport is adorable, with lots of variety for places to eat. Sleeping Bear dunes is an easy day trip. We would stay here again.

This was by far the best vacation in a long time. The house is extremely cute and very clean. It's perfect for extended families, because the upstairs is self-contained with its own space and bath -- outside stairs. Northport is adorable, but Suttons Bay and Leland are also so close that you can find more than enough to do. Barb's Bakery (their cinamon sticks especially) was the highlight of the town! We've already reserved again for next year.
