Huge front windows provide great light and visibility of the creek, willows, scenic bridge, pine trees and surrounding mountains. It does not seem like you are on a lower level. Good internet and cell service is available. Very open floor plan in the round makes for great family space accented by the natural pinewood bar and autumn gold slate gas fireplace. Located three miles south of charming Hill City, guests are only a short stroll from the Mickelson Trail, 15 minutes from Mount Rushmore and Sylvan Lake, 10 minutes from Custer, 30 minutes from Rapid City, and less than one hour from Deadwood and the winter sports areas near Lead. This is a spacious fully furnished walkout apartment with huge windows and a large private patio where the gurgling brook, meadow, and scenic pines invite exploration. Deer, turkeys, and chipmunks are frequent visitors. The creek has catchable rainbow trout. This circular shaped structure is a "Mandala" kit home and fits into this alpine hillside beautifully. The cozy furnishings and natural Black Hills slate gas fireplace will help you relax after a day enjoying the historic sites and unforgettable adventures which abound in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The master bedroom has a comfortable queen bed and a direct opening to the patio. The second bedroom also has an excellent queen size bed. The activities available are beyond description but some of our favorites include: Biking and hiking on the Mickelson Trail Eating at the Alpine Inn in Hill City, Skogen in Custer. Hiking to the top of Black Elk Peak (tallest peak between the Rockies and the Alps) Fishing Historic sites galore- Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood, Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave, Badlands National Park, Pine Ridge and Wounded Knee, The Open Cut at Homestake Gold Mine in Lead, etc. Swimming at Sheridan, Sylvan, Pactola Lakes, Cascade Falls, Hippy Hole, Angostura Reservoir Devil's Tower 1880 Train Black Hills Geologic Institute Prairie Berry Winery and Miners microbrewery Centennial Hiking Trail Picnics anywhere Wine on the patio and watch the sunset Look for satellites in the incredibly bejeweled starry heavens Exploring the art galleries Skiing and snowshoeing Horseback trail rides Chuckwagon rides and suppers Rock climbing with Sylvan Rocks And the list goes on... The property is centrally located with quick access to many Black Hills attractions with a grocery and restaurants within minutes. The house is very clean and the kitchen came well stocked with tools as well as various sundries like spices, oils, coffee filters, etc. Beds and furniture were comfortable. The creek on the property provided easy hours of fun for our kids to explore and fish.

We look for a peaceful place to stay to recharge for vacation - and this did not disappoint! The property is just surrounded by beauty, and the creek was so much fun for the kids to wade in, and the calm sound of the water washing over rocks was incredibly therapeutic - sipping coffee out there each morning was a treat.

Spacious with a nice location for your Mt. Rushmore. Experience. The cabin has WiFi which is very nice. You just can’t watch TV like you normally could/would. They do have a lot of DVD’s to choose from to keep the family entertained which was a good idea. The cabin does have heat in each room but no central air. The weather was good when we were there so we just opened up the cabin windows which made it comfortable. Overall it was a good experience with the family.

It was the perfect spot for us to explore Custer state park! My husband loved fly fishing in the creek out front. He caught several trout. Everything was clean and spacious! Perfect for our family.

Our family stayed in the lower level and it was very nice and exceptionally clean. Beautiful views surround the property. We saw deer each morning on the property. The location is very VERY convenient to Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, The Wildlife Loop, Hill City & Custer. We had a wonderful stay.

From first communication question to check out time, it was wonderful. Extremely clean, warm and felt like a place to call home for the time we stayed. Creek on property and the location was perfect. Minutes' drive to Hill City, a short drive to Crazy Horse, Custer, Sylvan Lake (Black Elk hiking) and more. Across highway from Mickelson trail. Would defiantly stay here again.

We had a wonderful stay. The property was near Wind and Jewel Caves and Sylvan Lake, the site of the wedding we attended. We slept well and the property was well appointed and comfortable, with beautiful views. We could not have asked for a better place.

Such a beautiful location for my family for our weekend visit. Cabin and location are more beautiful in person. Cabin is clean and practical. Plenty of space for everyone. Only recommendations are a nonslip pad in the shower and internet connection to the TV. Perfect location from all the sights and just far enough from Hill City to feel like you're away from it all.

Our family stayed in the cabin during our recent trip to South Dakota. The house was tidy and met the needs of our group. My son loved the lovely creek that runs through the property and it was nice that a trail had been mowed through the grass near it so that we could walk and enjoy the view.

We throughly enjoyed our stay at the Highmark for our summer family getaway. We felt close enough to the attractions yet far enough from the center out town to feel like we got away. Our two small children absolutely enjoyed the amenities and surroundings of the property. Our four year old even said, “I want to spend Christmas here.” High praise. We would love to return if we have the opportunity to return. This was our first VRBO experience and we were really impressed with how easy everything was.

The home is located just outside of Hill City, but is a quite oasis. Wonderful location for day trips to the many tourist locations. We enjoyed the deer every morning, as we had coffee on the patio.

GREAT KICKOFF FOR SOUTH DAKOTA!!

COVID had put such restrictions on us these last two years that it was time to breakout. This was the start of our vacation to Yellowstone for us and this year we had some setbacks as Yellowstone closed one day prior to our day to leave (8 inches of rain over melting snow in 72H). Dan accommodated us an additional day to stay at his property due to this issue. It worked out on both sides. Communication between parties was great especially with Jeanne. The location of this property is perfect for all the activities we had planned. Great access to Custer (can I say Tatanka!!!!!), 15 min from Mt. Rushmore, 2 hours from Devil's Tower. Needles, Iron Mountain, and the Wildlife Loop. All are a must!! My girls enjoyed the stream that runs on the property. We got to meet Dan on last day and what an obliging fellow! If we find ourselves in his "neck of the woods", we will gladly rebook with you Dan!

We were disappointed when we first arrived that there was a rotting carcass next to the stream that smelled awful, so our kids couldn’t play in the water like we hoped. We also paid $20 extra dollars for an “extra person” fee and there wasn’t even sheets for the futon. There were food crumbs in the crack when we laid the futon down. Communication with the property manager was great and she is very helpful. The location is perfect and the rest of the cabin was very clean.
