Location

Bathrooms and Toilets downstairs with all bedrooms up steep narrow staircase; non of which are mentioned on the details. Plus, the noise from the naval ship which is based there directly opposite ruined our stay.

Lovely spot shame about the house!

The bay of Kastellorizo is sensational. The people on the island are very friendly and helpful so I was surprised by the attitude of the owner of the house. There was a rat in the roof on one night, which I made the owner aware of, but rather than put some rat bait in the ceiling ASAP she preferred to state ‘no one else had ever heard a rat before’ making me feel she was implying I was making it up! The stairway in the house was dark and very narrow making it difficult to navigate in the night if you needed to use the bathroom as it was downstairs. The house is probably authentic in style but it wasn’t what I would call comfortable living. The best thing about the property was the outside patio attached to it which was lovely to sit at and enjoy the view over the bay. The owner was helpful in relation to a 300 Euro cash bond that had to be paid because I lost my credit card and had to cancel it so was unable to provide the bond so I arranged to have a daily inspection so the owner could be sure nothing was damaged.

We happened to be there when 3 weddings took place on 3 consecutive days so of course there was loud music played into the night, which in itself is not a problem but the old house has no sound proofing at all so I was listening to the entire playlist until around 1.30am. There was also a club on the other side of the bay from the house that often played very loud music until 5am. The sound waves travelled very well across the water making it difficult to get sleep. Kastellorizo is a beautiful place and if I were to return I’d put more thought into the liveable space and sleeping comfort of the accommodation. One of the downsides of being on the waterfront is it’s very noisy.
