Fantastic location, pool, staff, food… everything was truly great, we would love to return! However, we likely won’t because they were so painful about accepting US dollars—which they requested in advance.
They were too difficult about accepting US dollars! We were warned to bring cash, so I went to the bank and got US dollars before we left, but OMG, it was almost as if they were searching for reasons to decline our bills. They only accepted 50% of our bills, claiming they were damaged. Some had been folded in half, which is an exclusion. Some had the corners slightly folded or a tiny warn, or a small mark on the bill. Not kidding they inspected each bill for 30-40 seconds each. They even declined bills they had given us as change!! So be prepared to pay 4% more when you’re forced to pay by credit card, which is crazy when you have hundreds in fresh bank notes in your purse! During 3 weeks on Cambodia they were the only hotel to be so difficult. Too bad.

Sunset beach is a beautiful and remote location and during our stay in SunBoo (early May) we had the luxury to have it almost to ourselves. There is a super nice common area/ dining room where you can relax & eat with sea view. The staff are very friendly and attentive (for example by bringing you a new bottle of FREE filtered cold water every time you finish yours). They have two dogs and four cats roaming around, a plus for animal lovers. The menu was extensive and the food was outstanding (for example fresh fish and pizzas) and very reasonably priced - something we later found very rare in Koh Rong Sanloem!
The beach is remote and surrounded by the jungle, which of course makes it very appealing and beautiful. At the same time, it is full of insects (bring a lot of mosquito repellent and cream for bits) and the room where basic and partially open (open bathroom) which allows many insects to get it a night. The bed has a mosquito net but in our experience that did not work super well. In my opinion little improvements like more nets and citronella or natural anti insect repellents would make the rooms more enjoyable.
