Indeed, new measures have been taken by the French government concerning the collection of the tourist tax from January 1, 2019. The Porto Intercommunal Tourist Office asks owners of furnished tourist accommodation to collect from their tenants the tourist tax which must be paid to homelidays (for rentals booked from 01/01/19) or on site (for reservations before 01/01/19) and which will be added to the initial rental amount. This tourist tax, which will then be transferred to the Porto Intercommunal Tourist Office, will be invoiced as follows: • The calculation for unclassified accommodation offered by the Porto Intercommunal Tourist Office: It is 2.20% of the price (excluding tax) per night per occupant (with a maximum of € 3.20). • How to calculate the amount of the tourist tax in concrete terms? Ex 1: a family made up of 2 adults and 2 children aged 16 and 19 who have stayed for 7 nights in an unclassified furnished flat for a price of € 840 excl. Tax will have to pay: Rental price per night: € 840/7 nights = € 120 per night Price per night: 120 € / 4 occupants = 30 € per night Price of the tourist tax per night: 30 € x 2.20% = 0.66% tourist tax Tourist tax to be billed: 0.66% x 7 nights x 3 subject = € 13.86 • Another example: a family made up of 2 adults and 1 child aged 10 who have stayed 1 night in an unclassified residence for a price of € 330 excl. Tax will have to pay: Price per night: 500 € / 3 occupants = 166. 67 € per night Tax rate per night: 166. 67 € x 2.20% = 3. 67 € tourist tax. As a reminder, the amount of the inter-municipal tourist tax is capped at € 3.20. Tourist tax to be invoiced: € 3.20 x 2 taxable persons = € 6.40 Will be exempt: those under 18, holders of a seasonal contract employed on the territory of the community of municipalities, people who occupy premises whose rent per day is less than 1 €, people benefiting from accommodation emergency or temporary relocation.
