The modern design house consists of two bedrooms with large areas much and solarentos. The double bedroom has a balcony facing south, the bay of Funchal, with chairs and hammock for relaxing. Besides the magnificent view you can enjoy the sun all day and watch the fireworks on festive seasons. The second bedroom has two double beds. This floor has full bathroom. Downstairs is the dining room and living room, a service bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and access to a very cozy patio with garden chairs. The change of bed linen and towels and housekeeping is weekly. You can request extra service of daily monitoring cleaning, with additional payment. One of our bucket list items was to see the NYE fireworks in Madeira. We booked this 12 months ago and as ever Madeira did not disappoint. As for the house it was well kitted with all you would need and more, clean and tidy with a great view of the marina from the balcony.
Our host Hugo was excellent both in comms before we arrived and met us personally at the property to give a guided tour. Nothing was too much trouble and whilst unobtrusive it was reassuring to know if we needed anything or advice he was available.
Whilst 15 minutes walk from the promenade in Funchal you should also explore the local area, the cafe at the fort is well worth a visit. Be prepared for the hill climb, we did it most days but in the evening got a taxi or Bolt back up the hill, cost between 4 and 7 euros depending on taxi service and time of day.

Hugo is a master at hospitality. Very nice man who had fresh fruit and cold beer upon our arrival. He showed us around the property and even gave us a ride into town on our first day as he was leaving at the same time to go get a haircut!
The house was clean and ready for guests. We did not use the kitchen much, but comes fully stocked if you choose to prepare your own meals. The views are fantastic.
Would highly recommend this property if you are considering. Would also recommend Hugo’s recommended taxi driver if you wish to take a tour or 2 of the island. We took an easy side tour with Jose and a west side tour with Jose’s nephew, Nuno. Both were great and knowledgeable and provided good information about the island.

A very clean, well equipped, slightly old fashioned and quirky town house, with great views down to the harbour, and the Saturday night fireworks, from the upstairs terrace.
The owner, Hugo, is a wonderfully friendly and helpful host and made sure we had all we needed. He organised our airport taxis pick-up. Would stay again.

We stayed in Hugo's apartment in Santa Luzia, Funchal for 4 nights. Firstly the apartment is much bigger than it looks in the pictures, being Hugo's old family home, it is homey and welcoming and has everything you could possibly need for a stay including Hugo's unique artwork and a mini fridge dedicated to complimentary mini beers. Hugo is an actual star, going out of his way to be helpful but not intrusive. He works downstairs so is often on hand for guidance or questions. The bedrooms are spacious and beds comfortable and the views from the double room are excellent. The kitchen has a great set of gadgets and Hugo even provides coffee capsules and teabags. The location of the property is fabulous, you can choose which side down you go into town, arriving on the west or east side of Funchal within 10-15 mins. The walk back up makes you puff a bit but is fairly short so very doable. We would not hesitate the stay at Hig's lovely apartment again in a flash!

Hugo welcomed us very friendly and surprised us with beer and fresh fruit. He is very helpful and also showed us a garage parking very close by. He even accompanied my husband to the rental car company. The house was very nice, spacious and clean. The view of the sea from the balcony was great. The apartment was clean and well-equipped.
The view from the main bedroom is beautiful in the evening, and to wake up to in the morning. Definitely worth the steep climb out of town. Local coffee shops and small mini-market close by. Hugo is an excellent host, welcoming and accommodating.

We stayed in this property for two weeks with our teenage son. The house is very spacious and well equipped. Hugo is a wonderful host. Beds are comfortable, plenty of towels and supplies in the bathrooms and kitchen. There’s a Nespresso machine with a nice selection of pods. A lovely breeze flows through the house when the windows and doors are open. We loved hanging out in the mornings and evenings on the balcony of the master bedroom. Gorgeous views over downtown Funchal and the harbor. Our stay included a mid-visit cleaning and she did a wonderful job.
We walked into downtown Funchal every day and some days even managed to walk back up, and each time it got a little easier. Other times, such as with groceries, we hired a taxi — from the downtown Pingo Doce it costs €5.
The property address isn’t really on google maps, so we always gave our taxi drivers the address for Hugo’s shop, which occupies the basement of the house (the shop is separate and has no access to the home) but the shop door is on the road with car access. The entrance to the house is on the west side of the building, on a pedestrian only alley.
There’s a tiny cafe a few steps away, and a small grocery store down the hill a little ways but still very close. The Monte Carlo hotel is nearby and seemed to be the landmark most taxi drivers used.
We would definitely recommend Hugo’s home to anyone traveling as a family. It’s lovely!

It was a great pleasure to view the city and harbour from our bedroom and balcony, perfect place for a glass of wine. Groceries are available from a nearby store. It's about a 15 minute walk into the City which seems to have thousands of good restaurants. Walking back up was a challenge but great exercise for us seniors. Taxis are plentiful and cost about 4 Euros. The real gem in this property is Hugo, the property manager, he was there to great us and show us around and always responded immediately when we had questions.

Beautiful Madeira
This was our first visit to Madeira and we shall certainly return. The apartment was beautiful and perfect for our stay.
Hugo was there to meet us and walked us through the apartment, telling us how everything worked. He left us madeiran wine, beer, coffee, tea and spices , all for our convenience and not to be replaced.
We had one problem with the window blind and Hugo came immediately to sort it.
Hugo was the best host we’ve ever had. Attentive but not intrusive. We shall certainly return.

First of all, thank you Hugo for your hospitality, we felt welcomed like at home. The apartment is amazing, having everything you mau need for a short or a long stay in Madeira. You feel yourself in a real artist environment. Cozy rooms, terrase with a stunning view to old-town and harbour. Superb place with great view!
After getting lost on the way, (our fault), the rest of the stay was much better than advertised. The apartment, on two floors, was very spacious and furnished with comfortable and top quality antiques,stylishly mixed with modern, quirky things. Every possible thing we could need. Hugo made us very welcome, right down to the free drinks cabinet and asked us to contact him with any queries, not just about the apartment. There is a local shop nearby with an amazing selection of food. The baker/cafe at the end of the street has lovely bread. We also liked the little, private, courtyard garden. We watched cruise ships docking- from bed! The restaurants are a 5-10 min walk downhill (more uphill). Thank you Hugo.

The house is in a great location, only a 10 minute walk downhill into the centre. The home was beautifully furnished and the kitchen well stocked. The bed was very comfortable. The hammock on the balcony was useful for afternoon naps. Hugo and Marta are lovely people and their home was perfect for our stay.

Very clean, well equipped property
Just returned back after 5 days at Hugo and Marta's apartment and was very pleased with the accommodation.
Everything was spotlessly clean and everything you would need is provided for your use. The terrace outside the main bedroom is a lovely spot for drinks with a view.
Hugo is a lovely man, left us beers, coffee and fruit for us to enjoy, nothing was any trouble and the communication throughout the whole booking process was easy, quick and friendly.
It's a 10/15 minute walk to the old town where there are plenty of bars, shops and restaurants, it's a nice place to go.
The walk back is a little steep for the final part so we did get a taxi a few times after being full with beer and good food!
The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of some noise from the local dog population, this is a residential area so perhaps it is the be expected, they were not too close to us thankfully and it was not a major issue just something to be aware of when you go.
Overall though a great experience and would recommend to others,

Very nice house with all facilities required.
My wife and I spent two weeks at Hugo's house in Funchal. The house itself has everything you could want, and is modern, clean and comfortable, with a superb large balcony off the bedroom, which has a panoramic view of the town and harbour.
Hugo is very welcoming and kind, and brought some gifts of fruit and bread, and also left some beer and wine to help ourselves !
The property, however, is up a very steep hill from the town centre, although we found the 15 bus will take you to a stop above the property where you can walk back down in a few minutes, or take a taxi for 5 euros. Of course, most of the properties on the island are situated on hills. There are a few interesting museums on the route down to the town, some have quiet coffee gardens, not frequented by many tourists.The weather in January was perfect for getting away from the northern European climate.

Hugo and Martas house is a pearl. We loved our stay, and placed in the old town, you are only few minutes away from the sites and restaurants. The house is both stylish, very functional, well equipped and clean. Hugo and Marta are very helpfull and welcoming and we give them all our best recommendations as hosts.

Funchal Apartment
I went with my daughter for a few days break to Funchal. We were fortunate to have selected Hugo and Marta's apartment. It is very well fitted out with everything you think need and no doubt anything you forgot about.
The location is excellent and the views stunning. Just above the old town everything is near at hand a short walk down the hill. The apartment was clean, well maintained, and very comfortable.
What really made the apartment was Hugo, I have stayed in many place before and when he said at the beginning, if we needed anything then let him know, he really did mean it. He works close by and ensured everything was made easy. A wonderful host.
I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the place and when I go back I will check first that his place is available before I look else where.

Magical Madeira!
From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel so welcome. Hugo met us on arrival at the house and proved to be a wonderful host - not intrusive in any way but kind and generous with his time and nothing was too much trouble for him.
The accommodation was stylish, clean and homely and equipped with all that anyone needs for a self-catering holiday. The view from the balcony is wonderful and a perfect place to sit and relax.
We would advise that the walk up from the seafront can be slightly challenging on the hottest of days but as we like to walk, we found it a way to get a little exercise to burn off the excess calories gained from over-indulgence! There are, of course, numerous taxis readily available along the seafront if you do not wish to walk.
The wine festival was in full flow during our first week which meant that there was plenty of activity along the seafront to enjoy. In our second week we enjoyed the cable car ride up to Monte and took the opportunity to explore other parts of the island which gave us a flavour of its outstanding beauty.
In summary, we had a thoroughly enjoyable time and cannot recommend Hugo and his accommodation highly enough - we certainly intend to return.
