Incredible building and fantastic staff. We slept like babies. I couldn’t recommend it more

The YMCA is a beautiful building the photos don’t do it justice. If you like period buildings and want to feel like you’ve stepped back in time this is the place for you. The staff are very welcoming, the location is fantastic for exploring central Shimla everything is in walking distance. We slept very well as it is quiet away from the roads. Highly recommend.

The room could have been a bit cleaner.

Disappointing

I think I was the only guest then . I saw no one during my entire stay in my floor. Kind of haunted feeling too. the entire property need some renovations and the doors are so loose and it makes some noise during night. But they staffs there are so friendly and helpful

Never stay in YMCA

The toilets were clean

There was something not right about the staff and the other person who was there in the dormitory. There were no lockers where you can keep your stuff safe. I suspect they misuse the ID which we give to stay. Would not suggest this to anyone...

Just liked the vicinity. Mall road and food places were close so didn't have to struggle much.

There was hot water problem and also they should have a facility to provide atleast breakfast to their guests.

Exceptional

Location was good. It takes only 2 minutes to the ridge. So you can find restaurants and shops easily. Also view from balcony is beautiful.

Little costly for dormitory.

Nostalgic Historical Building with Views

The location of the YMCA is brilliant especially as its located by Christ Church. If you want a nostalgic experience and comfort is not a priority than I would highly recommend YMCA Shimla, as it has over 80 years history. Most likely built for British Civil Servants. The views are pretty awesome from both the rooms and breakfast areas. Free filtered water system in breakfast breakout area. Good place to refill your bottles. Really clean washrooms. Sinks plus hot water during daytime and evening.

The property is not accessible for disabled persons as there are several stairs up from street level to the hotel and then more steps to your room and the toilets and showers. The room windows cannot be opened as monkeys roam the area.

Cheap and (very) basic

The location and the view from the hostel is the best thing about it. Also breakfast is included which is a bonus.

It’s true that the place has not been upgraded for decades. It’s like stepping back in time. Also everything costs extra, even leaving your bags in the dusty “cloakroom”. Simple requests, like is there somewhere to hang up clothes that got soaked in the rain?, were always met with “no”.

running water is a pretty standard amenity. what century is this? owner assured me that it’s like this everywhere, i beg to differ… it’s all fun and games until the toilets don’t flush

Great guesthouse near the Mall road !!!

Location and proximity to mall road

Manager and Sain (staff) was good. There was a staff in morning which seems to be an outsider/dealer was very rude and followed me to the bathroom for pending 300 and irritated despite of assuring him that I will pay after sometime
