Great location for a short trip in an interesting traditional house.
We loved the location in the mountains and strolling around the village. The house is truly a labour of love, full of interesting 'things' and it was an experience to stay there. Great garden and lovely to sit outside under shelter in the rain, and I imagine it would be refreshingly cool when the weather is hot!
We did love the house but felt that there was too much stuff - the most beautiful and interesting objects were lost in amongst the clutter. It was difficult to find surfaces to put our things on and particularly to cook.

Exceptional
A beautiful house in a small, cozy village. We lacked nothing - there was everything you needed in the house. A good place to visit central and eastern Crete away from hustle and bustle.

Romantic rustic retreat
Mylopetra is a restored stone cottage in a rural village. The cottage retains many original features and the decor includes some traditional agricultural equipment, which gives it character and creates a rustic ambience. The property has WiFi, a TV, a basic kitchen with bottled gas stove and ancient fridge and a shower room. There are two sweet bedrooms, the larger of which has air conditioning. The cottage was clean, comfortable and we had everything that we needed for our stay. Parking is on site and we found Armakha an excellent base for exploring the magnificent countryside around the Heraklion region. There are no shops in the village, but there are plenty of shopping opportunities within a couple of kilometres. If you want an authentic taste of Cretan village life in a simple, and charming property, give Mylopetra a try.
Just a note of caution that the stone floor is uneven in parts, due to original features, such as the old wine processing tank, that one navigates by taking a couple of steps up, around and down. It’s a lovely feature, but care would need to be taken by those who are not sure of foot, or those with young children.
