The Gingerbread House, also known as the Asendorf House, is 108 years old and yet still bears resemblance to the original architecture of the original 3-story southern mansion, built in 1899. The owner, Cord Asendorf is buried in Savannah’s famous Bonaventure Cemetery. The features of The Gingerbread House are unmistakable and stand out as a fully designed home in the Gingerbread style, prevalent in the Black Forest region of Germany. Plan your curated stay, and leave with memories that will last a lifetime. After undergoing major renovations, this second floor apartment boasts with high end finishes and modern yet sophisticated furnishings. The original historic details of this 100+ year old home have been handsomely restored, such as the original heart pine wood flooring, mantles, and moldings. After entering through a double set of wood doors, you'll step directly into the heart of the home. This space is fitted with tasteful furnishings, dramatic tall ceilings, and floor to ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light. Adjacent, the eclectic formal dining room is the perfect space to enjoy a home cooked or catered meal. Just beyond, the impressive chef's kitchen features 2 large islands, stainless steel appliances, and plenty of prep space for the chef of the group. Off of the kitchen, guests will find a dual set of glass doors that lead into the courtyard, where guests can gather together for an evening glass of wine around the fire pit. Upstairs, the dramatic tall ceilings continue, and you'll find another vibrant gathering room that features comfortable, modern and sophisticated furnishings for your party to relax. The abstract artwork compliments the bright walls, while creating an inviting yet fun environment. Just across the hall, you'll find a contemporary wet bar, stocked with everything you'll need to prepare handcrafted cocktails, coffee, and more. Enjoy your favorite drinks together, with a take-out meal at the dedicated dining space, that overlooks the grand ball room below. At the front of the home, overlooking Bull Street, the first bedroom offers bright crushed velvet Queen beds. Tastefully styled with custom drapery, a plush rug, and an ample amount of seating, your guests will be envious of those staying here. While the second bedroom can be accessed from this room, it can be closed off and accessed from the hallway as well. This room features a Scandinavian design with rich accents from the amber drapery, custom painted ceiling, and eclectic artwork. At the back of the home, the whimsical primary suite offers a King bed, delicate finishes, with an ensuite bathroom and a vanity room. Next door is Savannah's famous coffee shop, Foxy Loxy. Grab a coffee and treat to go, while you explore the Starland District, and Forsyth Park. Hop on a nearby trolly stop and head toward the bustling city district, where you'll find the nightlife and fine dining. The Gingerbread House is a part of Savannah's leading event venue that can be rented separately for magical weddings, elopements, receptions, and much more. Sleeping Configuration: Bedroom 1: 2 Queen Beds Bedroom 2: Queen Bed Bedroom 3: King Bed Bedroom 4: Twin Trundle Bed (2 Twins) What is parking like for this home? This home includes 1 designated parking space in the lane behind Foxy Loxy. Additional parking can be found in the on-street, non-metered spaces in the area. We encourage guests to pay close attention to street signs as street sweeping schedules are posted. We can welcome your dog companions at this pet friendly home, but ask that you find other arrangements for cats, birds, and other furry friends. There is a $130 pet fee (non-refundable) with a 35 lb. maximum weight limit per dog and a limit of 2 dogs per reservation.

Reviewer Comments: This property is locally famous which makes it an experience in itself. Expect to see people taking pictures of the house.Stayed here once before and this time we were pleasantly surprised by the upgrades. Hard to do on an older property.East access to downtown but you'll be fighting for parking around the house each day.

It was funny how our favourite rooms in the house kept changing. It was such a happy and big (but wonderfully cozy) place to come together as a family. Outside of the tiny little dilemma getting in due to code not working, we have nothing but positive things to say. I would highly recommend this HOME!

The kitchen was amazing. The owner had left coffee, hot chocolate and delicious fruit for us to enjoy. The three common areas were all used and enjoyed. Everything was within walking distance. We’d highly recommend it!

We were more than pleasantly surprised when we walked in and saw how big and beautiful it was. Everything was perfct, it was immaculate and decorated with such fun things! We used every single room from the kitchen to the sitting room to the living room to the back patio. I can't say enough good things about this amazing house!

I would make the upstairs "living room" into a bunk room to sleep more people. We almost didn't rent because we needed more beds. Girls trip and we like our own beds. Also, they need to sell MERCH.... I found stickers in town and art in town. with the house on it. I would have been awesome to have some things for sale right next door. We did find dirty dishes in the cabinet, and the dishwasher didn't work. But the home was very clean otherwise. They also need a whisk and more silverware, there were only 7 forks and 2 butter knives.

The 4th bedroom is just outside the master bedroom and very small, however; it was perfect for a child. The living room, kitchen, and dining rooms downstairs were very spacious. Upstairs was another living room with a table for games and another larger room with a table for 6 and bar. We were very pleased with this property.

Portions of the property were very enjoyable. We all loved the historic nature of the home, decor, space and kitchen. The negatives of the home as follows: the two master baths had nearly zero water pressure and hot water sparse in the showers. The half baths toilets flushed intermittently. The cleanliness was marginal, floors especially, extremely dirty. Refrigerator smelled and was quite dirty as well the oven. Beds were comfortable but sheets did not fit properly in the master. Location was good except for the homeless asking for handouts continually. I fell it would be a wonderful event space but not for a family VRBO home.

Unfortunately there were several issues with the property during our stay and delayed communication from management after our stay that I would not stay again. Very cute place though!
