Expensive and not quite up to the standards.
The room had enough space and was well equipped, beds were comfortable. We asked for a take away breakfast for the morning ferry and we got it.
Check-in staff wasn't friendly. Their restaurant's prices were sky-high. And the biggest issue: The room was in a separate building (even another street) and not in the actual advertised property. Also, it was quite expensive, sadly Orkney mainland is very expensive overall.

It felt as though profit was the host/owners' prime objective, with customer care a low second.
Excellent location, just minutes (on foot) from the ferry terminal and harbour. That the building was old, meant it had lots of character, especially my attic bedroom with its exposed rafters. Although very small, the room was well designed to maximise the space. I liked it. The hanging space for clothes was large but was outside the bedroom in a space between an inner and outer door. The bar cum restaurant was also full of atmosphere and character, although this worked better in the evening/night than in the morning, when it was used to serve breakfast. The restaurant menu was varied, but pricey for what was basically a pub: a medium sized glass of wine was ÂŁ8.
I did not appreciate finding the entire building closed and locked when I arrived at 15.00, with a notice stating that it would open at 17.00. The sun was shining (luckily), but I needed to get rid of my luggage to stroll about. Neither of the two out of hours telephone numbers were answered. Since the owners knew when I was arriving, a text to alert me to the closure would have been the minimum courtesy I would have expected. The building's character had its down side as the stairs were narrow and steep - getting steeper the higher one climbed. I was very glad not to have a heavy suitcase. I tried the shower at 06.30, but no hot water. Let it run for 5 minutes - zilch. Tried again at 07.30 and this time the water was hot, however the pressure, and more alarmingly, the temperature, varied erratically without any intervention on my part. Additionally, it emitted a high-pitched, ear-bashing siren like sound. Very small bath towel. All in all, an unpleasant experience. Breakfast was poor if you didn't eat meat (as I don't) just beans, mushrooms, tomato and long-ago, over cooked scrambled egg. No cheese. Eggs were available cooked to order IF you knew to ask for them (which as there was nothing to so inform one, I did not). Only one fruit juice available - a cheap supermarket orange (I saw the carton). Filter coffee was bitter and stewed. Reasonable selection of cereals, a bowl of fresh fruit and a smiling friendly wait person were the only plusses at this miserable breakfast. There was no communal area in which to sit, read and relax.
