Shap Wells Hotel

Such a lovely period hotel, not far from the motorway, easy access to the Lakes. Lovely walks around the hotel, lovely if you have dogs too. Beautiful Art Deco dining room, superb breakfast and dinner selection.

All good.

Simple checkin, room was easy to find, room had most things you could want from tea / coffee (additional sachets / milk near the hotel entrance), heating, good wifi, space, plenty of lighting, private garden views. Large place with more than 100 rooms over 3 floors, had a games room with full sized snooker table, gym, plenty of dining, secluded lake district location with it's own parkland, waterfall, woodland walks and Queen Vick memorial statue. Despite the room being right next to the dining hall which was busy and loud, quiet and could hardly hear a thing. Quick to get to from the M6 and no road noise.

Approach road from the M6 side is more of a pothole than a road, parking can be difficult if the hotel is full, beyond the hotel's woods are moors and nothing else within walking distance. Experiences might be different depending on which part of the large hotel a room is in. Decor and rooms seemed a bit out of date.

Very nice friendly place, would recommend it

Lift not working, but staff carried our bags

The hotel is in a great setting with walks straight from the front door. Plenty if car parking.

Our room had an unpleasant strange smell which meant having the windows wide open - not ideal on a windy night. The ensuite was very tatty. The windowsill was soaking wet and dirty - despite reporting this, nothing was done about it. The sealant around the bath was black in places and the seal on the shower screen was coming away.
