We booked a standard double was allocated a spacious duel aspect room with city views overlooking the crucible and Lyceum theatre. Although we had booked a theatre trip we arrived early morning to have a shopping session and the staff on reception gladly stored our bags for later and again the next day we decided to take a later train so we could get the tram (5 mins walk from the hotel) to Meadowhall Shopping Centre again storing our bags to be collected later. The hotel location is perfect right in the city centre only minutes walk from the theatres, trams, and railway station.
Some upgrading work going on in the restaurant bar area was cordoned off. This was not a problem to us it was not noisy the reception staff apologised for any inconvenience but the work has to be done to keep high standards and its probably all finished now and there are many places to eat and drink around the hotel.

Location is perfect.
we were in 534, the smoke alarm light flickers on and off, annoying our sleep. The TV did not show any freeview channels. There was renovation occurring and was only informed 2 days before, I think for the price we paid was not fair.
