The Little John Hathersage

Really lovely staff – friendly, helpful and available whenever I needed anything. Room was bright, airy and comfy, and the bathroom was clean with nice hot water and good pressure in the shower. I love that the place is dog friendly too – if I'd realised in advance, I might have brought mine with me!

I'm not sure where the noise was coming from, but I could hear quite faint but constant low-level music all evening every evening. It might have been the pub downstairs or the pizzeria my window overlooked, and it wasn't super loud so many people probably wouldn't notice it, but if you're quite sensitive to sound like me then it's a bit annoying. I just put in my earplugs all the time I was in my room and then it was OK. There were also a few crumbs and some dust around the room that made me think it had been cleaned quite quickly/superficially. But the important things (bed, shower, shelf with kettle and biscuits) were all clean.

This is a really comfortable pub to stay in. The family who run it make you feel very welcome. The rooms are lovely and the showers are really good. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The evening meal was excellent. And the welcome pack for our dog was especially nice. We love the decor, especially the wallpaper on the ceiling of the ladies’ loo!

1) Location was perfect! - As an international traveler on a spontaneous trip to the Peak District, this hotel is honestly the ideal base for exploring the area via public transport: it’s just a 5-minute walk to Hathersage train station (for hikes in Edale and Bamford), and under a minute walk to the local bus stops (conveniently bringing you to well known towns like Eyam, Bakewell and Baslow). Its also less than a minute from a convenient local store for my snack refills. 2) Comfortable room: Better than expected! Clean, great bed, nice big window, fantastic shower pressure, and thoughtful touches like extra towels. 3) Friendly staff: Super welcoming team who gave clear info on facilities and accommodated extra requests smoothly.

Nothing that bothered me very much, but some minor improvements to consider: 1) The guest book needs an update regarding checkout times, and adding the Wi-Fi details there would be very helpful. 2) The floorboards are quite creaky, which could potentially bother light sleepers when people walk down the hallway late at night.
