About this chalet rental
Located in French Basque Country, this attractive chalet for $81 per night is a great option for your next vacation. "ESKITZA" is an authentic kayolar (shepherd's hut) nestled in the Basque mountain, at an altitude of 800m, but with very easy access. Located on the heights of the town of Arnéguy, above the last farms in the Ondarolle district, this is the first kayolar you will find along the regional road 128, on the chemin des estives, 5 minutes by car from the owners' house (Markitxenea). Your hosts, Bernadette and Jean-Michel EGOZCUE, producers of pure sheep farm cheese (PDO Ossau-Iraty), will help you discover Basque culture. This unusual 40 m2 gite, isolated and immersed in nature, will delight you with its breathtaking panorama of the Valcarlos valley and the Roncevaux pass. The serenity and calm of the place will not be disturbed by the Internet since there is no WiFi. It is perfect for lovers of wild flora and fauna or hikers. You will join the way of St Jacques de Compostelle at less than 4km from the gîte. The numerous raptors; vultures, kites, buzzards and sometimes eagles from Spain will be your neighbors as will the woodpigeons during the migration season. Some pottoks (wild horses) can also visit you and lull you to sleep with the sound of their bells. Recently furnished with all modern comforts, it can accommodate up to 4 people and is composed of: - a living room with large convertible sofa (sleeps 2), a flat screen TV, an open and fully equipped kitchen area: mixed hob (gas / electricity), hood, oven, micro-oven waves, fridge with freezer compartment, small appliances and common utensils. The cottage is heated by reversible air conditioning (electricity consumption included in the rental price). - a bathroom with a large walk-in shower, a sink, a toilet and a chest of drawers. - a storage room with washing machine (pantry) - a bedroom for two people on a mezzanine with a 140 cm bed. Beds have mattress covers, pillows and duvets, free bed linen. Outside, you have on the terrace a barbecue and a wooden garden table in the private enclosed space. Pets admitted free of charge. Cleaning not included (cleaning service on request = 40 €) Beds made on arrival on request = 25 € Towels provided on request = € 16 / week / 4 pers. Rentals are only weekly in July-August: Arrivals on Saturday from 3.30 p.m. Departures on Saturdays, at 10:30 am at the latest.

Superb property in a beautiful location but we experienced poor misty, rainy, cloudy weather which limited our ability to take full advantage of the outdoor area. Access road up from the valley is very narrow and very twisty and is 8km from Arneguy. Great care must be taken!! A great place to go for peace and quiet with vultures, sheep, cows and pottocks for company.

We had a wonderful week very far up the Pyrenees, right on the border with Spain. Our only neighbours were loads of cows, horses, and hundreds of sheep for making the famous Ossau Iraty cheese. They frequently paraded past our stone shepherd’s shelter. It was very wild and certainly remote - 25 minutes on a very steep and windy road to the nearest town, St Jean Pied de Port. Very well appointed house. We loved it. There is no WiFi, but we had no trouble in contacting anyone via our phones. Highly recommended.

Excellent pour qui souhaite déconnecter
Un gîte très bien aménagé, il ne manque rien pour un séjour de qualité. Pour déconnecter, c'est le lieu idéal. Il suffit de quelques minutes de marche pour aller à la rencontre des moutons, des vaches et des chevaux en liberté sous les vols majestueux des milans et des vautours. Les paysages sont magnifiques. Les propriétaires sont vraiment très sympathiques et le fromage de leur ferme est excellent.

Reposant
Bergerie posée au milieu des Pyrénées entourée des animaux en estive. Un morceau de fromage succulent nous attendait sur la table, production de nos hôtes.
Nous avons été bercés par les cloches des animaux pour nous endormir. Point de départ pour de grandes marches sous un magnifique soleil.
Nous voulions nous ressourcer et nous couper de la civilisation, pari réussi.
Nous reviendrons avec un grand plaisir.

C’était juste exceptionnel. Le temps était en plus en notre faveur avec plus de 20 degré au mois de décembre .

Vue Epoustouflante communion avec la nature et la faune locale
Bernadette adorable et très serviable nous accueilli a notre arrivée dans sa Petite maison type bergerie entièrement restaurée, très propre, il ne manque rien, lits confortables, vue époustouflante sur les montagnes hispano/françaises, idéal pour les randonneurs et amoureux de la nature, au milieu des vaches, des chevaux des rapaces, des moutons et du fromage ossau Iraty miam miam! même si le temps n'a pas été au rendez-vous nous y retournerons les yeux fermés a la belle saison pour randonner, pensez a visiter saint jean pied de port et a savourer des spécialités locales au restaurant T'TPIA prix un peu au dessus de la moyenne mais excellent

Un très bel endroit au cœur de la nature
La bergerie est charmante et offre une vue spectaculaire sur un paysage de collines et de pâtures. Elle offre tout le confort moderne et permet d’être au plus près des animaux en estive. Le lieu est calme et magique par beau temps, idéal pour randonner en évitant la foule. Un très bel endroit pour se ressourcer loin de l’agitation moderne. Un vrai coup de cœur.

Nous avons adoré notre semaine 'au bout du monde', une vue à couper le souffle, les animaux pour seuls voisins et les promenades superbes à proximité ! C'est vraiment ressourçant ça fait du bien !
Jean Michel et Bernadette sont charmants et c est agréable de découvrir leur métier d éleveur !!
Nous avons bien sûr beaucoup aimé leur fromage très très bon !

Jolie bergerie entièrement rénovée et équipée. Il ne manque rien. On se sent coupé du monde, pas de circulation, seulement une vue magnifique sublimée par le chant de quelques oiseaux. Les sentiers de balades de manquent pas aux alentours!

Nous avons passé un super séjour dans un gîte au top! Un accueil fort sympathique des propriétaires, point de vue panoramique exceptionnel sur la terrasse du gîte. Rencontre avec les brebis, pottocks et vaches en pleine nature. Si vous aimez le calme et que vous souhaitez vous ressourcer, je vous le recommande.

El lugar es un paraíso, una delicia de la naturaleza.
La borda, en armonía con todo lo que la rodea, coqueta, cómoda, con lo necesario para disfrutar de este entorno maravilloso y un poco más.
Los dueños encantadores, gente amable que vive una vida tradicional y en comunión con toda esta naturaleza que les rodea. Muy prestos para atender cualquier necesidad y pendientes en la medida perfecta.

What a magical place! The perfect place to relax for a few days, and enjoy some hill walking around The Camino. Of course it helps if the weather is sunny, which it was, perfect for late October. Jean-Michel very helpful, especially for sending over his son Sebastian so he could help me get the Rugby World Cup semi-final on the television. Should have spent a bit more time brushing up my French in advance. Wonderful being lulled to sleep by the cowbells. Very fond memories of the gite.
