Our family of 13 from NH, DC, and TX had a wonderful week at The Manse - a step back in time large cottage in a perfect location to explore the Monadnock region. Even our one rainy day didn’t dampen our spirits as we played games, did jigsaw puzzles, read, took naps and prepared for more hiking the next day. A great time was had by all.

Loved that the property was so quiet and away from everything, and had absolutely wonderful scenery. The lodge is exactly that a "125 year old lodge" and was perfect for our needs. It's very large, and has all the quirkiness expected in an older home. Some of the pipes leak, some things don't work perfectly, etc. All in all, we had a great stay in a great location with all the comfort we needed. We could not get the Roku TV to connect to the wifi, but no one really seemed to miss TV for the week. We enjoyed climbing the mountain nearby (Monadnock...this mountain has no easy or moderate trails). Great views from the summit!

Aaron Millar says “the more we look for wonder in the world, the more the wonder of the world becomes a part of who we are.” I spent the week at Monadnock Manse finding wonder in nature, which is abundant there, and in my family. This was the first trip we took as an extended family and it worked really well for our group of 16, age range of 14 to 76. There were enough bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone's use though you needed to be mindful of showering or it could be a cold one for you. It's an old house so some quirks are expected; e.g. some doors didn't shut fully and sounds traveled clearly. Ear plugs are provided as are ample linens, blankets and towels. We congregated in the kitchen for meals and in the dining room for puzzles/games nightly. It was helpful having two refrigerators and a gas grill. The wrap around porch was magical with its views, calls of loons at dusk and guests, my favorites being a hummingbird and dragonfly. The ping pong table was also a hit as was the large green space that accommodated our hammocks and outdoor games. The walk through the woods to the dock was short but could be difficult for some as it's knotty underfoot and a little steep. Silver Lake is beautiful and we really enjoyed nearby Sunset Beach. Activities included lots of fishing, some biking/swimming, canoeing, going to a local farmer's market one day and to Harrisville Designs another, and poking around in nearby general stores. Thank you for a laidback and wonderful time.

Plenty of room, plenty of privacy, Lake was beautiful

We were looking for a place to decompress and this was it. Solitude, a cottage vibe and beauty abound here. The porch was the ideal hangout place for morning coffee, lunch after a dip and fishing at the lake (nothing like a NH lake-clear to the bottom) and cocktail hour. We would return in a heartbeat.

We always love visiting Silver Lake and The Manse is large enough to accommodate our group under one roof. The front porch is our favorite spot with a beautiful view of both the lake and the mountain. The kitchen is well equipped to feed large groups and plenty of space for dining inside and out. We’ve stayed here multiple times and have great memories!

My family enjoyed a wonderful week together at Monadnock Manse in New Hampshire. We all enjoyed the lake — boating and swimming. The large porch with its lovely views was a great gathering place. We played croquet and badminton outside and many board games in the dining room inside.
This charming 125 year old farmhouse was a perfect space for our group of 16.

We rented this property for a large family reunion and it didn't disappoint. The location can't be beat. Beautiful wooded property with short walk to gorgeous lake. The house is 100+ years old...classic/quaint New England. Views from the house, unbeatable! The fall foliage was unbelievable! We took advantage of the lake with the available canoes, kayaks, and rowboat available on property. The 8 bedrooms and 5 1/2 baths worked great for our 19 guests. Be aware walls and floors not very sound proof so will need to be careful about noise if someone goes to sleep early.
Ruth, the owner was extremely helpful and avialble for any questions. With one hot water heater...getting everyone a hot shower or bath was occasionally a challenge...Cleanliness overall was good, but place could use a good dusting. Kitchen was well stocked and having two refrigerators was great. Nice gas grill on property for grilling.
Overall, if you need a large house, in a great location and looking for a genuine New England experience this place can't be beat!! Would definitely, and hope, to stay their again.
THANKS RUTH!!!

We rented the house because it was close to Cobb Hill. The stay was great and Ruth was very helpful. Thanks again!

The house sleeps a lot of people. Its rustic and comfortable.
The lake is beautiful and there are plenty of boats to go out on the water, Swimming is great. Be prepared for 2000 century bathing. Lots of sinks with hot water and toilets. A strong, forceful shower is not in the cards. Just know you're going to wash up the old fashion way. I thought it was great. Tons of games for everyone and a huge dining room to have nice large dinners. The porch is wrap around with a view of Mt Monadock and a sliver of the lake on the other side.

Great house for a large family gathering. We comfortably had 17 family members get together for a summer vacation. A large kitchen pantry area with 2 refrigerators was great for meal prep. The large table in dining room held all of us for dinners or we could move outside and fit everyone on the porch for evening meals. The lake was clean and boat house well stocked with floats, chairs and boats.
The views were outstanding and location great for multiple activities.
We loved our stay and Ruth was very accessible if we needed anything.

This was a perfect setting for our family reunion of seven siblings, their partners, a few offspring, and one baby grandchild. We spent a week going on a few excursions and a lot of hanging out on the porch. We swam and kayaked off the dock, visited the lovely little beach at Harrisville Pond, cooked and ate fabulous breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and plenty of snacks. There were loads of dishes and cooking utensils - aided by a fine dishwasher and two refrigerators. Lots of games and books, and a few vintage toys were utilized, as was the telescope. We were lucky enough to be there in blueberry season. The baby got to pick and eat as many as she wanted! Ruth was very responsive to questions and very welcoming. We feel privileged to have been able to share her family's summer treasure.

My family and I just gathered for a wonderful stay. We swam, boated, hiked, sat on the porch, cooked and ate delicious meals inside and out on the porch, played games, visited Harrisville and other spots around. The host responded immediately to questions. It suited all of us - ages 22 to 88. I highly recommend.

We love this place! This was our third time visiting the house and Silver Lake with our friends and family and it feels so cozy and familiar. The place has plenty of indoor and outdoor space to congregate, find quietude and play. With young children, the house is wonderfully accommodating with quiet spaces for uninterrupted sleep while allowing the rest of the group to carry on happily. Thanks for sharing this beautiful cottage with us, hope to be back next year!

A group of college friends have been staying together annually at a different property for 15 years, that property is being torn down. We looked for something else large enough and private enough to continue our memories for years to come. The Manse was perfect! Spacious, beautiful views, clean, well stocked, WIFI, row boat and swimming. We will definitely be booking again. Ruth was a pleasure to coordinate with! The large wrap around porch is pure gold! Thank you!

Ruth was an absolute pleasure to deal with, she answered ALL my questions (and their were many) promptly and honestly. This is a very old house with a LOT of charm and some of my family really enjoyed reading about the history in the books left on the property. It is absolutely OFF the beaten path but was a perfect fit for our large group gathering for my daughter's wedding in Greenfield.

Large house - great for big groups. Older and a little tired but functional. We forgot to strip the beds and follow some check out rules so forfeited the security deposit.

We had a large group of our family stay since we were in town for a wedding. There was plenty of rooms, bathrooms, utensils, etc for all 13 of us. Also located a short walk from the house is a beautiful lake. We definitely recommend!

We were a group of 11 adult girlfriends looking for a relaxing long weekend away together. Monadnock Manse was perfect! There was plenty of space for us to each have our own comfy bed, the porch was amazing with views of the mountain and lake, the dining table large enough for us to all eat together and play games, the living room cozy with the gas stove to take the morning/evening chill off, the kitchen amazingly well stocked with supplies, and the lake was clean and warm (even in late Sept). We can't wait to come back next year! Ruth was very easy to communicate with. Highly recommend this home.

There is a lot to like about the Manse. The house is huge, with large porches, lots of space outdoors for kids to run and play, and our day swimming and boating on Silver Lake was wonderful. This is a converted old farmhouse, which is full of charming and historical touches, but also means there that kitchens, bedrooms etc lack some of the modern and comfortable touches one would normally hope to find. But as a place to congregate many people in a bucolic setting, it otherwise works well. The owner was helpful with logistical planning issues and left us extra blankets, sheets and towels. Our one significant frustration, which unfortunately was cast a shadow over our entire stay, was the completely dead and nonfunctional wifi, which would have been less of an issue if the entire area was not in a cellular dead zone. This presented constant frustration in activity coordination and communication. We drove miles to find a spot to call the owners on our first evening there, and, though the owners stated they were working to fix it, no technician was ever sent to the home during the entire duration of our stay. While I expect this was something of an aberration, it caused extreme and worsening hardships for many in our party during our entire stay.

A unique property in a very private setting. It's a little bit of a hike to the lake which was a good thing when you have young children. I would highly recommend this location if your looking for the perfect get away!

We loved our week-long stay at the Monadnock Manse! We filled all the rooms with family members ages 1 year old to 68 years old. Food prep in the kitchen was easy, even for so many people, and the porch was the best "hang-out" spot, especially with coffee in the morning and happy hour in the evenings. We brought along a baby gate to keep little ones from climbing the stairs, and a large pack 'n' play to "corral" babies for daytime. The lake is so beautiful, and we loved our time on the water, bringing a canoe and several kayaks to supplement the water craft in the boathouse. A fabulous location for our family reunion!!

Beautiful, big house with plenty of room for lots of friends to stay. We so enjoyed the porch views of the lake and mountain, and hanging out by the lake in the hot afternoons. Would recommend highly to anyone looking for a peaceful, serene weekend away with friends or family.

It was a great family experience and one i would recommend to a large family to bond with. We all spent time in all the common rooms downstairs a lot of the time. It's great to have a lot of space to have the kids run around. There was the occasional mouse here and there and a shame there were only 2 shower heads available, but we managed.

Ruth was very communicative before and after booking about accessibility for my older relatives. The house was enormous and a really interesting and spacious piece of New England history. Silver Lake is incredible, but a farther walk than expected, maybe 5 minutes through a path to the water. Shed is full of helpful water gear. Overall, a great remote New Hampshire getaway

There were no surprises when it came to the home. The pictures are accurate. The porch was my favorite part. My family snuggled in at night and enjoyed food prep and meals together. The reason for the rental was a wedding for my youngest at Allrose farm. Huge success. Thank you!

Ruth was so nice and easy to work with on renting. She was very prompt on answering our messages. We had 13 adults and 4 teenagers and everyone had a great time. Kayaking, canoeing, swimming, yard games and many board games for indoor fun.

This was a great place for a family reunion/50th anniversary where we could all stay and relax. We had age ranges from 3-70 and were all very comfortable. Great place!

Three generations escaped COVID lockdown for a refreshing week at the lovely manse. The house had more than ample room for the eight of us to spread out and find our own spots, whether inside or out. We loved sitting on the porch and looking out at the lake or the mountain, listening to the loons on the lake. And Ruth was a helpful and responsive host. Some things it’s helpful to know: the walk to the lake is not a challenge for kids or average-ability adults, but if you’re traveling with someone whose walking is impaired, you will want to make other arrangements. My mom has severe arthritis in her ankles and she couldn’t make the trek through the woods and roots or the 52 steps down to the dock. Ruth kindly suggested that we could drive her around to the boat launch (just about 1/4 mile) and boat over to get her, and that’s what we did. On the inside, be aware that sound travels easily in the house. There are vents from the living room and kitchen into two of the bedrooms, presumably for heat sharing. If you have early risers and night owls, you’ll want to make some agreements. Once we got our rules straight, this was no problem at all for our group. More pluses: Having two fridges was a real bonus, especially when we were trying to limit exposure by not shopping frequently. We could get a week’s worth of food and not need to venture out. The grill was new and big and easy to use, and the kitchen provided ample work space. I loved composting, though it’s not required. Overall, this is a really special place and feels like a private resort for just your group. Highly recommended!
