Almost all of our family joined us on West Lake Okoboji, Iowa for our Golden Anniversary. Plenty of room (sleeps 22), extremely clean, and great amenities (sand beaches, lake docks, super view from a great deck). Plus, the owners were extremely responsive to our questions. Super comfortable. Great weather, and because of our Iowa farming roots, we enjoyed a 2 inch rain on Saturday night! We would rent this property again.

This is a large home (used to be a duplex) so there are plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. We were a group of 9 adults and 6 kids. Pros: 8 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, large deck, 2 refrigerators. (with 6 kids all under 7 we cooked most of our meals at the house) Private neighborhood beach. This was so wonderful, because of all of our littles, and the public beach was packed. All the neighborhood folks were very friendly. Cons: There was no covering on the deck (not even the umbrella shown in the pictures) We had to purchase 2 canopies from Walmart so that we could enjoy the deck. Unfortunately they were both ruined in a storm one of our last nights at the house. There is also only one table and I believe 10-12 chairs on that huge deck. We were needing table space for 15, so there was nowhere for us to sit together and enjoy a meal. (inside or outside) My biggest complaint, is that the basement bathrooms were unusable! I wish I could post pictures. The amount of mold and mildew in the showers was disturbing. There was also mold/mildew on the ceilings in the 2 master bathrooms, and the exhaust fan was filthy. One of the bedrooms in the basement had obviously had water damage, but the repairs were not completed. Many burned out lights. No king size beds. No large dining area This could be a fantastic property, but it needs a lot of love!! It has the feel of a bachelor party house with no artwork or end tables and very minimal effort put in to making it homey for the guests.

Family Reunion Fun!!
Family Reunion Fun!!
This house is perfect for big family get-togethers. The six bedrooms upstairs were occupied by the six adult siblings and spouses. The two large bunk bed rooms in the lower level were occupied by the cousins...boys on one side girls on the other. Enough space for all of us!! Two kitchens work well as one is for beverages and snacks the other one for cooking meals. A big party space with pool table and bar in the lowerlevel, a huge living room on main level and a huge deck outside allowed for plenty of space for all of us. An easy walk or golf cart ride to the private beach, the Taco House and WestO Brew Pub. We've been at this house twice now and have enjoyed it both times!

Pros: Very nice home, seemed like a duplex with the living rooms joined together in the center. Loved all the bedrooms, 8 in all, and 6 bathrooms. Plenty of room for our whole family, 9 adults and 10 grandchildren. Large deck with lots of seating provided. We brought an easy up and used it on the deck. Worked great! 2 kitchens on first floor. Each end of the home had a queen bed master suite with private shower/bathroom, a second queen size bedroom and a 3rd bedroom with a full bed with twin bunk above. Main bathroom on each side had a tub/shower. Kitchens were very pleasingly furnished and there was a gas grill on the backside small deck. 2 washers and dryers on the first floor. Basement has 2 large bedrooms with 2 full size beds and twin bunks above in each. 2 bathrooms with showers. Large living room in the center with a pool table. Large lawn with room to play ball, bad mitten. Several outdoor toys in the closet. Short walk to to the beach. Cons: MOST of this information was not given to us ahead of time. We rented this home early in the season, and neglected to print off the info as we thought we could look at that closer to our vacation. Lesson learned, print off info as soon as you rent! Owner took it off the sight after it had been rented for the season. It was difficult getting info from them. We arrived, none of the beds were made. OK no problem as sheets were setting on the dressers. Thing was none of them fit the beds of the rooms they were in. Search on! After scavenging the whole house we finally found sheets to fit all the beds. 2 days later we found the dryers packed full of sheets and towels! We thought it was strange that the only towels in the bathrooms were left behind beach towels! The water was never hot (warm only for a short time) on either side of the house made it difficult to shower, do dishes, or laundry. No ceiling vent covers in the basement, had to stuff towels in them to stop so much cold air down there and get more upstairs. Because of these issues I am only giving 3 stars. We would definitely would come again regardless. Vacations are always an adventure, all in all we had an awesome time.

We have 4 grown children with families of their own; this house was perfect for us. Everyone had their own space with bedroom/bathroom . They are able to lay little ones down for naps and then be with the rest of the family in one of the two common areas. We enjoyed relaxing and playing at the public beach which was a short walk from the property. In the evenings we could sit out on the deck, watch fireflies, let the grandkids run and play. Or we could have pool/billiards competition with the table in lower level. Okoboji is easy enough to navigate, has an amusement park that is great for kids, and many music venues for entertainment. Our only complaint was some lack in cleanliness. We had to clean a tub before using and kitchen floor and counter were sticky and attracted ants which we took care of. We realize there is rapid turnover between renters, so we tried to help by picking up after ourselves before we left. We met the cleaning lady who was super nice and ready to get the place ready for next guests.
