Beautifully restored property very close to great shops and restaurants. Perfect situation to explore the rest of the island by bicycle. Would love to return.

This house is perfect. It’s utterly charming on a quiet street, just 2 minutes walk from both the start of the shops and an entrance to the huge covered market. It has a large open plan living/kitchen area with exposed beans and several doors that lead onto quiet alleyways where you can sit and have a drink. It worked for both a grandparent (70+) and kids from 6-12 - close walk to good/drink/shops/bikes. We were 9 people - 2 couples, a grandmother and 4 kids. Kitchen was well stocked, and we walked to the market multiple times a day for fresh croissants/cheese/everything you could imagine (it’s open in the summer from 7:30-15:30). Martine who looks after the house was extremely helpful and responsive. We would definitely stay here again. Il de Re was certainly one of the highlights of our 3 weeks in France. If you are active, make sure you reserve several days to bike the glorious bike trails, all around the island. One thing to note! If you are driving in, Ile de Re is a maze of 1 way streets. Plan your route before you enter - you must come in via Rue de L'Hopital, then by Place de Republique, then on to Rue Carnot, then turn right on Rue Suzanne Cothonneau.

A charming, very comfortable and well-equipped house. Really quiet yet within easy walking distance to the harbour and all its amenities. We especially appreciated the private underground parking. The owner was lovely and very welcoming. We had a fabulous stay in St. Martin de Ré and would highly recommend this accommodation.

The house is really spacious - 4 good sized bedrooms (designed as 2 kids rooms - one with bunk beds and a cabin bed and one with a small double bed and 2 adult rooms). Two bathrooms each with a bath and shower over bath plus two separate WCs - one upstairs, one downstairs. Huge space downstairs - open kitchen and dining area plus cost living room with separate table, sofas, coffee table etc. Kitchen is equipped with everything you could need - glasses for all drinks, tonnes of plates and cutlery etc, good quality pans, cooker, microwave, large fridge freezer full of ice cube trays etc plus cleaning stuff (only things you’ll need are extra loo rolls and hand soap). Washing machine in bathroom upstairs really useful with little kids. The location is unbelievable - quiet cobbled street but 2 min walk to beautiful harbour, restaurants and shops of St Martin de Re. Parking is in secure underground car park a 3 min walk away. Hosts are very welcoming and helpful - responding very quickly to any queries I had before and during our stay.

We had a lovely week in this property in May/June 14. We were able to book from Tuesday to Tuesday to allow us to take the advantage of cheap flights. We had very good communication with the owner by email. They clearly answered my questions despite me using google translate to ask my questions – sure some didn’t make much sense but they understood all the same. They always replied to my emails and gave contact details etc. Contract arrived quickly. Emails sent to us to pay the deposit and final balance which made the process very easy. Fantastic location in the heart of town. A minute away from the shops and restaurants but far enough away not to be disturbed. A couple of minutes’ walk to the supermarket and the harbour. Intermarche a good 15 minute walk, but easy on a bike. The house is in a great position for touring the island on bikes. Plenty of bike hire shops available close by. From the top of the street you can access the cycle track which travels up the coast, passing some lovely great value Oyster Bars. The main beaches (…and great market..) on the other side of the island are also only 30-45 minutes away via the cycle tracks, depending on how fast you cycle. Very good facilities in the house with all the usual white goods including a lovely large fridge. Lots of cutlery and crockery and so many glasses, etc. Don’t think you would run out even after filling the dishwasher. Dishwashing products provided, as well as teatowels. Large table to accommodate 8-9 people. Bistro table and a few chairs available to use just outside the kitchen door, although not a private area, you could still enjoy a little sunshine. Lovely large lounge with plenty of seating, another table and chairs and a beautiful set of desks for the children. Lots of French books and plenty of puzzles in the lovely dresser. Also a small chest of beach things for the children. One large bedroom with bath/shower and sink to the front of the property. Twin room in the middle which was lovely for the children with soft toys, books, desk and chalk board etc. Two large double bedrooms to the rear of the property. A toilet by the two rear bedrooms. Bedlinen provided. Towels available at small extra cost (5 Euros per person). Excellent value for money. A very large house for the money making it a very affordable holiday when sharing with family and/or friends. Electricity is included in the rental price too. We would definitely return. The house was set back from the front's shops and restaurants and enjoyed a quiet spot on a narrow cobbled street. The property was clean, spacious, cool and well equipped. Our host met us and explained everything. It was a perfect base for a relaxing week on Ile de Re.
