Beautiful location Quiet neighborhood near beaches. Perfect for family reunions.

Spacious, interesting, lots of bedroom. Didn't hear from host re protocol when leaving but eventually found old Liston side of fridge. Thought expecting guests to wash linens for 7 beds excessive,- removing sheets should have been sufficient. Photos showing billiard table didn't show dark, musty basement room it was in, with the TV. Liked ccking and dining supplies.

Staying at this property was a very fun experience for our family (12 adults, 3 kids). The house was HUGE! and we loved the period-decor. It had everything we needed and was a very comfortable stay. The location was excellent. We enjoyed walking access to the Fort and easy access to the beach. Very quiet neighborhood, with great outside space. Close to all the things we wanted to do/see.

It was a great experience. The house is old and does have some age related issues, but nothing that distracted from our stay. Obviously no fault of the owner the power went out but they were kind enough to bring lights as the lights were out for 8 hours due to weather.

The Commander's House was a pleasant step out of time. Only one clock (in the kitchen), inviting spaces all over the house for conversations, a perfectly delightful kid's corner and a wide open parlour and dining room gave us places to gather as a group and for smaller confabs. The location was ideal for North Oregon Coast adventures. Storms made Dish network unreliable, and the solid construction of the house kept wi-fi to the first floor - part of the charm of "unplugging" for fully half of our group. Stairs, stairs and more stairs reminded us all of the hardiness of our predecessors and of our need to stay in shape. If you're looking for an immersive experience into history with all the conveniences of a well-stocked kitchen and ample bath facilities, this is the place! We loved it and hope to return.

So much to see and do here. Lots of stairs, so may not be good for some. Our group found the painting with the angel in dining room rather offensive, but that’s just us.

Perfect
My sister's, myself and our brother grew up in Fort Stevens. This trip was our final goodbye to our Dad. We discovered the home was available and had more room than we needed. But it was all used. Such a beautiful home. I babysat the kids who lived there once and my little sister was friends with them. It was comforting to have such a welcoming home for our family to gather. We are already planning for next year. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home.

At first the history of the house can be a little intimidating, but we settled in well and had a wonderful time.

The house definitely was a unique experience and very different from a standard bnb .. it felt like we were in a different age and era (in a good romanticized way) - my only criticism of this place is that the house had a strong musty odor when we entered .. it took a couple of days before the smell wore off and my son and I had a little trouble sleeping bcoz of it the first night. Other than that, charming rooms, fresh clean linens, fabulously stocked kitchen, ( such an amazing collection of teacups), vintage accessories, every room seems to tell a story ... all in all - an enjoyable stay!! Also, I m just a little curious why is there a mannequin in a white dress in the house - it felt like giving an unnecessary eerie/ creepy/haunted character to the house - which really is not needed IMHO - Ranu L

This home is really cool and big. It is also really old and run down. There are a lot of decorations that make it feel in the time period. On our stay the oven didn’t work and smoked us out. That is our biggest problem but it didn’t stop us from renting it again in November. Hopefully it will be fixed by then. There were elk in the yard. That was really cool. Another problem we had was driving all the way to Seaside to get the key when it looks like there is a lock box at the house. That added 20 minutes to an already long trip. The check out instructions say you need to have a load of laundry done and folded. I’ve never had that in a VRBO before. And feel like that is too much to ask.

Magical Christmas in a Perfectly Splendid Home
We were absolutely amazed at how lovely this home was decorated for Christmas - from the living room's Christmas tree, all the Santas, Christmas wreaths even on bedroom doors, garlands throughout, to the Christmas china. We have had our extended family Christmas get-together for 14 years now at different beach and mountain locations. This house was by far the best supplied house with china, flatware, cooking items, and spices. We really didn't have to bring much of any thing except food! Having two refrigerators and the extra store space in the pantry next to the kitchen was so handy. The coffee'tea'hot chocolate room was delightful. The warmth of the fire places made those rooms extra special. Beds were so comfy with all of the covers and pillows. The kids loved their special place on the top floor with secret rooms filled with toys and stuffed animals. The basement's pool table and tv area was a nice break was the crowd. It was so much fun to watch the elk and deer roam in front of the house. This was truly a relaxing and fun family memory.

Charming experience!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this charming mansion! The rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated. The kitchen was fully stocked and we found all we needed to cook meals. We loved the Asian decor as well as the Bible scriptures and inspirational quotes. Thank you for an enjoyable stay. We hope to come back again!

CHS GETAWAY
Nice quiet neighborhood, walking distance to Fort Stevens Park that has great walking trails. Spacious well kept historical mansion with comfortable beds. Great water pressure and lots of hot water. We recommend this house for large groups.

This is a beautiful historic home that is filled with wry special touches. It was located within short walking distance of fort Stevens as well as a small marina.

Great house.

The house was very accommodating. Nice large bedrooms with king and queen size beds.
Check in was confusing. We had to drive 15 more miles (25 minutes) to pick up the key, because a lady called and told me that's what we had to do, just to find a key in a lock box at the house. FRUSTRATING!😟

We enjoyed the Commander’s Quarters
Our group of 6 senior couples enjoyed our stay. Everything was comfy and nice. The only negative was climbing to the 3rd floor for us oldies. It would be great for some a bit younger.
