About this cottage rental
Recently remodeled separate cottage on property of owner occupied house in quiet natural setting. Wooded view overlooking Hidden Valley Creek. 420 sq. ft. Two rooms plus bath. One or two guests. No pets / Non-smoking. Parking available for one car only. Near Lafayette Reservoir and easy access to CA-24. Convenient to Orinda and Lafayette BART stations. Internet. Nightly rate: as listed. Quiet Generac back-up electrical power supply in event of PG&E power failure. Minimum 2-night stay.
We had two guests stay in our cottage in November2019 before listing it with VRBO and asked if they would kindly write a review of their experience for us. Here is what they said:
"We loved our week-long stay in Joe and Georgia's guest house. finding them to be warm, engaging, and generous in their hospitality. The space is welcoming and comfortable, modern, clean, and spacious. The location was perfect for us, with easy access to the freeway, shops and restaurants close by. The setting is beautiful, with lovely views into the garden and surrounding trees. We slept very comfortably in the adjacent twin beds. The kitchen is well-equipped and modern, as is the bathroom. A high level of effort and consideration by Joe and Georgia has been made -- which will reward all who visit. We highly recommend it!

Lovely couple hosting. This is a nice self contained retreat located at the end of their yard. Very well appointed kitchen. I would stay again and probably will. While I was left well alone, privacy is lacking a little as their back deck, kitchen looks onto the cottage. It'd be nice to have a little privacy screen off whilst sitting outside. The lack of curtains in the kitchen and living area may bother some but not me. I was surprized at road noise from the highway. A single bed was in place when I arrived, while a novel experience taking me back to childhood., a double would be better. Overall, safe, clean, self contained.

Joe and Georgia are sweet people. They reached out early to ensure they could be there to meet us personally and walk us through the property. Communication and balance between being helpful and keeping our privacy was perfect. The property is in a generally quiet, residential location (freeway noise could be heard softly in the distance; occasional dog barking from neighboring property; party occurred at a neighboring property on a weekend evening, but was quiet at at a reasonable hour). Water pressure was ok (considering California is in a drought), towels were thick and fluffy; beds (two twin beds pushed together) were comfortable (not too firm, not too soft). Property has AC and fans (we did not use them, despite the summer heat as the property stays cool in the shade) and heat if needed which is really nice. We used the microwave, but not the stove. We didn't do any cooking but did use the microwave to warm up leftovers. Access to the freeway is convenient. Property is close to the Reservoir, as well as lots of dining options. (If you haven't tried Johnny's Donuts, we recommend it!)
We enjoyed our stay there and would definitely consider staying there again when we come back to visit family in the future.
