The Tides is a very clean and super friendly motel. The owner/manager is always very accommodating and 100% of the time, honored my requests for 1st floor room(s). The location is tremendous for sleeping as it is parallel to the Hampton main drag and is much more peaceful. Linen and beds are in great shape, though bathrooms are a bit outdated. It serves no breakfast, but provides coffee K cups in room. The strip has plenty of coffee, pastries, breakfast, etc.

The location was good, just a few minutes' walk to the beach. Free parking was the best part. The staff member at the office across the street was super friendly and helpful with all of my questions upon check-in, offering tips on places to go during my stay. The bed was clean and comfortable. The price seemed fairly reasonable for a last-minute booking. Check-in and check-out were super easy.
Several of the room's mechanicals were not functioning properly, so I let the staff know upon check-out. What really turned me off is that people staying in the motel were smoking outside their doors on the balcony; the whole parking lot/balcony area several times reeked of marijuana, which was unpleasant and gave off an uncomfortable, seedy vibe. The towels were rough, like sandpaper; one was stained, and the bath mat was dingy.
