When you choose to venture away from your shangri-la you will find a host of modern amenities like a grocery store, post office, shops and galleries, as well as lots of activities including tours of beautiful botanical gardens, horseback riding, zip line rides, river and ocean kayaking, boat tours, snorkeling and swimming, surfing and windsurfing, fishing, golfing and, of course, sightseeing the natural wonders of Kauai, to name just a few. You will also want to be sure to stop by at least one of the Sunshine or farmer's Markets for fresh, local vegetables and fruit to include in meals that you choose to prepare at home. There is an electric grill as well as the fully equipped kitchen where you can create your culinary masterpieces. This charming cottage is multi-level with the loft-style master suite upstairs complete with its own bathroom. The second bedroom is also open and the walls do not reach the ceiling. It is on a different level a few steps down and also has its own bathroom. The lower level, a few steps down from the second bedroom, is the main living area with the kitchen, dining nook and living room. Sliding glass doors in the living room lead to your private lanai and dipping pool. In case you return from the beach and want to rinse off before going inside, there is an outdoor solar shower for your convenience. Pros: Good location as far as peace and quiet. It’s a freestanding unit so there’s no shared walls or anyone above you making noise. Bbq and beach/pool accessories are onsite.Fans in every room. Cons:The air conditioning is solar powered so expect it to not work about an hour before sunset. Hawaii is humid so it will get warm and muggy even in December for the first few hours at night. The air feels turbid without AC. There are nats and flies constantly within the unit. Cobwebs and dead flies are all over the place especially behind tables and floors. Geckos are hidden inside the cracks in the ceiling and even though they help with flies, you will hear them every night if you don’t mind. It is dusty around anything that’s not easily cleaned from the front surfaces. The unit is technically a two bedroom but the walls are wide open throughout so there’s no privacy between the living room and bedrooms. If you’re bringing a baby then expect to stay quiet if your baby is sensitive to noise in one of the bedrooms. The pool was nice to have but the sun never hit the pool deck in December. The step down to the pool is further than convenient. Be careful of a low spot where water doesn’t run off on the deck because it builds moss and gets slippery (small spot in front of pool). The walk down to the unit is on a steep grade and the furthest unit from the parking lot. (Groceries, luggage, etc.)The sofas were small and not very comfortable to lay down in. Conclusion:This place can be nice for some vacationers but it wasn’t what we expected. For the price we paid we thought it should have been nicer based on he description and pictures.Our second stay was far cleaner and nicer all around. And it’s was cheaper by about $50/night. For those, particularly couples, looking for a getaway from the rush and crowds of the resort scene, this is the place. It’s surrounded on three sides by forest, and you’re awakened each morning by the singing birds. It’s completely quiet and private.
The dipping pool is a treasure, and really helps cool you off. The air conditioning unit didn’t work, but with the pool and fans we got used to the temperature and were pleased to have the fresh evening breeze come through the open windows.
The kitchen is fully equipped and we were pleasantly surprised to find some nice-to-haves like plastic wrap. The washer-dryer unit was essential given our trips to the beach and hiking in the warmth, rain, and humidity.
The master BR is a loft and open to the rest of the house; that greatly reduces privacy inside if more than one couple is sharing, but it’s necessary for air flow, and was perfect for us as one couple.
It was very nice to have covered, designated parking, and to have a small, private community of just nine cottages. Perfectly quiet, which is so vital to rest and relaxation. If you’re looking for R&R, this is the place to stay!
We will definitely come back again to enjoy this true gem!

Best cottage on the block. Super secluded and felt like we were in our own world. Only negatives I would give it was there were fleas in one of the beds and when we reached out to management (twice), we never got any kind of response. Luckily there was another bed and it was just us as a couple so we switched beds. Also I wish there were clear instructions on how to maintain the pool's cleanliness. Lastly, the septic tank is close by the pool/kitchen window and will blow out some stinky water debris every few flushes! We would stay again but maybe after a couple of improvements!

Place was great, clean, and had a beach trunk full of pool noodles, flippers, and snorkels. There’s more photos of the owner and their family than you’d expect, and a lot of Christian crosses, but maybe that makes guests take care of it better. Place could use a Yale code lock to avoid having to pick up and drop off keys at the rental office. The king bed was good enough, the couch feels rough to the touch- but is otherwise clean, there’s an odd stone threshold in the guest bedroom, and some gecko guano above the door frames. Overall great, would stay again.

We’ve stayed at several VRBOs, and this is one of the best! The cottage is secluded, yet is located close to stores, walking paths, golf courses, and comes complete with its own dipping pool. It’s very clean and comfortable. It’s surrounded by lovely tropical forest all the way to the ocean cliffs. The kitchen is tight and the drawers packed a bit too full of kitchen items, but very doable. If we ever come back to this part of Kauai, we would choose to stay here again. What a gem - we stayed in February and enjoyed waking up to the chorus of songbirds and the feel of the jungle was absolutely amazing. The toads could also be heard at night which made it feel magical. The cottage is very private and quiet surrounded by lush rainforest and very attractive and comfortable. We enjoyed the dipping pool although it was not heated but it was still warm enough to hop in.(74 degrees February) We had everything we needed and the neighborhood is stunning. Daily walks by the beautiful golf courses down towards Hanalie Bay. Cottage is very comfortable and inviting . Definitely recommend especially if you don’t like the hotel/condo experience .

Beautiful, peaceful, private
Wow, the "Gem" at Pali Uli 8 exceeded our expectations and was one of the best spots we've stayed on Kauai! The house is the last property in the community, giving it complete seclusion and stunning views of the surrounding jungle landscape. The interior was immaculate, comfortable, and had everything we needed. Even with mostly cloudy/rainy days during our early December stay, we still enjoyed the outdoor patio and outdoor shower. On top of the house itself, we absolutely loved its proximity to Hanalei, the gorgeous mountain views, and Ha'ena State Park (be sure to reserve your park entrance/parking pass online within 30 days of your trip!). Agree with other comments that the house is best suited for a couple, or more if you don't mind the open loft-style walls. We highly recommend and would definitely stay here again, if we're lucky enough to visit Kauai again in the future! :)

We loved our stay at Pali Uli 8 for 13 days. It was a well equipped home and we enjoyed the cool evenings and daily beach time. We appreciated the use of the snorkeling gear - only one day where conditions were good enough. Loved Hanalei and Ke’e beaches immensely. The house was well positioned in Princeville and it was easy to get around.

Lovely and secluded
We would highly recommend this property for any couple looking for a romantic get-away. We felt like we were staying in our own private corner of paradise. The house itself is clean, pleasantly decorated, and comfortable, but it’s the location that sets this property apart.
In the mornings and evenings we went on long walks through the peaceful, beautiful neighborhoods and past the golf course. It was conveniently located near restaurants and a grocery store, but when we were at the house, we felt like we were miles away from anyone.

We had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful cottage. The architecture for this cottage was spectacular. Everything is updated, well equipped,the special touches were beautiful, very clean. Can't wait to return next year.

As lovely as advertised
The dipping pool was the selling point for us, and was definitely a nice amenity to have. Almost everything about the house is wonderful.
Theres only one thing I disliked. Secluded and romantic, yes, but 2br/2bth does not mean it's ideal for two couples. For best enjoyment, bring your significant other, leave your friends.
Otherwise, everything here is perfect for a stay in Princeville.

Loved our stay in this secluded and romantic hideaway. Only complaint was the kitchen accessories, everything plastic and coated in Teflon. I prefer non reactive materials for eating and cooking.
